Being Me Influenced Myself
Even though my service learning was required, I was able to gain valuable information from the eighteen hours that I volunteered. Having been able to volunteer at Sky Oaks Elementary was not only a great experience but also gave me a greater understanding of Sociology (the concepts that we learned in class). During my service learning, I put to use most of the information that we learned in class so that I was able to understand the people around me. Having said that, I think that my social location affected my service learning experience at Sky Oaks. I believe that my social location of being shy had the greatest effect on my experience at Sky Oaks Elementary. My experiences at Sky Oaks were affected by me being an outsider, comfort levels, and my age.
Being an outsider affected my experience at Sky Oaks Elementary because some students had different expectations from me. If you are new to a place, it takes a while for the people around you to know you and understand you and you yourself adapt to the new situation and surroundings. When you work with kids almost the same age as you, they tend to ignore your instructions. When the students were in the lunch room, there was this one kid who kept pushing the table. I asked him in a nice way to stop and he did. But after a few minutes, he started pushing the table again. I said, “Can you please stop pushing the table?” He started blaming the other kids who sat with him. That boy was breaking folkways norms because he knew that he though he breaks the norm, there is no severe punishment. Significant of others is important in children because they learn to take the role of important people in their lives. It is easy for kids to listen and respect the elder than young

Who am I? That is a very deep question. I think the only way I can answer that truthfully is by saying, I do not know exactly who I am, but I know who I want to become. Sociology and Me Through sociology I have learned many ways to examine my life, and the different ways in which I identify myself. There are many factors that have affected who I am; social class, gender, and aspects of my family. Looking at what has influenced my growing up also helps paint a better picture as to who I hope to be, as well as how I want my life to look. For example, the job I want and the family I would like to have.…

Who am I, simply looking on the surface; how do others see me? I have been told, that I am intimidating with all of my tattoos, that I must be mean and like conflict. I have also been told that I resemble a pot smoking hippy; for me this is untrue, I am a mother of four amazing, delightful, and beautiful (predisposition mother) children that I adore dearly; ages going from eight-teen years old to twenty months old… Before college started, this is what solely defined me as my “SELF” or what I viewed and I presumed others expected of me. Looking more in-depth about the “SELF” as a whole, there are countless things that have fashioned me as a durable Caucasian, heterosexual, woman today. Raised as a Catholic; going to Sunday school and church customarily every Sunday with my mother (my father was a Presbyterian and did not go to with us), my mother being the leader at the Church Sunday school until my grandfather passed away (her father) at my age of eight.…

I would always try to make sure that the kids were always behaving and that they were following the rules. It always seemed like the boys liked to play with me more than the girls would, the girls really never really interacted with me in the play school. The boys would always either throw balls at me or punch or attack me and of course I would go along with it and play with them. I would pretty much do that everyday for the next month or two and for much I don 't really like dealing with kids or children I 'll have to admit that I actually started enjoying being with the children and interacting with them because it was…

Nathan’s conclusion on college students based on her study on the door decorations in her hall, differs from what she may conclude about myself. Although, what her hall mates and I represent may differ, Nathan can come up with several conclusions based on my dorm. It is evident that I have a high value on my education, apparent by my numerous scholarly achievements and the educational quotes I look up to, and my appreciation of family is conspicuous by my choice of photos and the family-friendly environment in my dorm.…

The Biggest Influences In My Life Some say “what a person does determines who they are,” and others say “who a person is determines what they do.” My personality drives me to take part in certain activities or clubs or to associate myself with different people and these same activities, clubs, and people have taught me about life and have developed my personality and skills. The things that have changed my life the most are my tennis team, my education, and service through my church. From the age of eight until the 2014 tennis season I played tennis but never took it very seriously. The summer before my sophomore year my family moved into the Plymouth-Canton district; I felt out of place and alone.…
