I live on a street light in downtown san francisco. When I was a kid, I was picked on because I was a beige moth rather than a black one. So I thought during the night I could do something heroic. So during the night I kill criminals to clean up the streets. I just had a baby girl,so I might not be a hitman anymore so I can be there for my daughter's childhood. My wife's name is Avery, and she is a history teacher at the same school that I work at. My wife said one day “I am worried you are going to die and our baby is not gonna have a father to raise my child” said Avery. “I love what I do and I want to be there for my daughter, so I will resign from my night job” said Beige Moth. So it finally snowed! I’m happy that it finally did and I built a snowman during the storm and it looks kind of…squared you could say. Since the snow is heavy, more of the leaves are now fallen off and it’s starting to look like winter. Today I went to my grandparents’ house to spend the few nights until thanksgiving. While driving out there, the corn fields and the bean fields were all covered with snow, you could tell that the deer were out and about since you could clearly see the footprints in the snow.…

3 Favorite Books If I had to list three books that inspired my way of thinking, it would the Autobiographies of an Ex-Colored Man by James Weldon Johnson, The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander Parker, and The Cosmopolitan Canopy by Elijah Anderson. These books exposed me to the realities of the world we live in. The Autobiographies of an Ex-Colored man displayed the constant struggle of a biracial child navigating through a world of privilege, racism, and oppression while simultaneously, searching for his identity. Although both of my parents are African Americans, the constant confliction of seeking acceptance in places where a person may not belong is a lesson that resonated with me through James Weldon Johnson’s story. According to the Myers-Briggs personality test, I am extroverted, intuitive, thinking, and judgmental(ENTJ).…

As we were traveling down the back roads to Le Mars, Iowa we went through so many small towns that I didn’t even know existed. My grandma, cousin, and aunt had so much fun in the car, playing games, doodling, and singing. We went by this small town that only had like 8 houses. As we got closer and closer we all were so happy to taste the fresh ice cream. When we arrived to the blue bunny museum I looked at my cousin Randi and said “ Omg I can’t wait! ”…

Quarter past the hour, the bus was swamped as a freeway at traffic hour. Orca blue had camouflaged the city; fortunately, accents of flaming red had made their presence felt. Furthermore, it was evident that it was playoff season. As game time neared, my cousin and I made our way to our Hotel. Just hours before puck drop, the rabid Canucks fans, delivered some rather crude looks as we strolled down Robson Street in our Gaudreau shirts.…

The inspiration for my source analysis paper lies in Zora Neale Hurston’s essay “How it Feels to Be Colored Me,” an examination of her experience transitioning from an all-black community in Eatonville, Florida to a white community in Jacksonville and eventually to Barnard College in New York City. Hurston begins describing her childhood growing up in Eatonville, where the only white people she saw were those passing through her town. The whites and blacks did not have much interaction, but the town citizens watched the tourists as much as the tourists watched the town citizens. Though many of the citizens only looked through their windows and behind the safety of their curtains, Hurston loved to sit on her front porch, which served as a gallery seat for her. Occasionally she would even greet and speak to the travelers who she saw as actors with the world as their stage, but Hurston was ignorant of the fact that in turn the white people saw her as an exhibition.…
