I believe that leadership is not about one person dictating, but rather that it is a team effort. As I participate in activities where I am the leader, I make sure that I work with my peers and listen to their ideas in hopes that we can join together to devise a creative plan of action. Through my experiences as an editor on the yearbook, captain of the JV Volleyball Team and SWAT Travel Team I believe that I demonstrate the NHS ideal of leadership. Being a member of the volleyball team has taught me a lot about unity. I try to bring what I learn on the courts to everyday life.…

While being a member of a small high school track team, I found it necessary to put in additional training and hard work. As a senior, I felt it was my responsibility to step up and take on the role of leadership, while remembering that it takes a team effort to achieve our goals. The new roll of leadership was to have an impact not only on the team, but for my future endeavors. During a major track meet,…
For the last two years, I have contributed to my Advanced Women’s Show Choir’s success as a performer and as a dance captain. My talent as a dancer and my ability to quickly learn choreography led to my selection as dance captain. This leadership role requires me to be a responsible person, a patient teacher and a supportive team member. Being a part of a nationally top-ranked show choir, I know the requirements of my role, and I was always thrilled to be selected as a dance captain during my junior and senior years. As dance captain, I schedule and lead dance sectionals, helping the girls review the choreography from previous rehearsals.…
Journal Article Analysis: Communications 320 Summary Kramer’s 2006 study “Sharing Leadership in a Community Theater Group: Filling the Leadership Role” explores the communication methods utilized by individuals in a setting in where shared leadership would seem to be vital for group success. As background for his study, Kramer notes that throughout history, leadership studies have focused almost solely on individual leaders within groups or organizations, hardly ever exploring organizational structures in which leadership is being shared among constituents. Additionally, he points out that the few studies that do broach the topic of shared leadership, still don’t delve into the communication events behind this sharing of power.…
Partaking in the student council organization has allowed for personal and leadership growth, and is comprised of plentiful downfalls and successes. But I believe that it requires missteps and prosperity to learn and grow as a leader. In terms of strength, my skills in proper and adequate delegation tasks have contributed to the successes of my class. However, delegating and simply telling others what to do is not leadership, it is the act of collaborating with one another to execute an event or achieve the goal. Ultimately, I believe that it is my ability to uplift and empower others as my greatest asset.…
I would like to become a National Honor Society (NHS) mentor to give back to a club that helps make the community around us a better place. I believe that I am qualified for this position because I have exemplified the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. Education has always been a priority for me. I am truly interested in what I am learning and how it can apply to the world around us. I have shown Leadership through my Speech and Debate Team.…
Growing up, I was always a hard worker. At age nine I sold enough newspaper subscriptions to win a bicycle in my hometown of Allegheny, Pennsylvania. It was also at that age, that I was fortunate enough for my family to travel to New York for my career. At age thirteen, I was a chorus girl and later on when I was fifteen, I performed at Pan- American exposition in the “Trip to the Moon” exhibit. At age sixteen, I had an opportunity to perform in Mr. Bluebird along with my mother at the Iroquois theater.…
This relates to my capacity to be a leader because I took the responsibility of holding the booth by myself. Lastly, I took a leadership role when I coached rocket football cheerleading. I was a huge role model to all the little girls I coached, and I took a lot of responsibility by taking them all into my hands for a couple hours a few days every…
The leading of a team or group is not a simple task but involves real life skills that take time, thinking and commitment. The role of leadership is an essential aspect of an organization since it can determine the difference between success and failure. “Although leaders are gifted in different ways, with different personalities and varying skill sets, all leaders can grow, become more skillful, and become more competent so that they can achieve greater effectiveness” (Ledlow & Coppola, 2014, pp. 10). At times, leadership may seem overwhelming and complicated, but by concentrating on specific fundamentals they will find that they can guide the team with the assurance and competence. There no one style of leadership, in fact, there are several…
People ask me what a leader is, my answer would be someone helpful to others, determined, has confidence in others as well as herself and has a positive attitude. Today, I represent the AVID class of 2018 as a president. I set myself as a role model as well as a leader. I and my peers organized fundraisers to benefit for our future. We are scholars that help to build confidence as to speak with their mind and have their voice heard.…
When the word “home” is defined in a dictionary you are given definitions like “the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered” or “any place of residence or refuge” but to me home means so much more. To me, home is theatre. Those who know me well will attest that the change in me throughout this experience is drastic. Theatre transports me to places I couldn’t dream of otherwise and two years ago, I was taken to a place that would change my life forever and theatre transformed to the place I call home. Thoughts and ideas flooded my mind as I stepped into the off-green colored cafeteria.…
I can still remember the day when my parents told me the phrase, “You are a leader, not a follower.” It was in kindergarden right after I told them about a few girls who were making fun of a friend of fine, and I decided to stop them and defend her. When my parents told me that phrase, it definitely stuck with me throughout my life. I think that’s a phase most kids hear time to time in their childhood. It’s that phrase that makes you question, what it a leader?…
This, along with the speech I gave when I received the ‘Town Mayor 's Youth Award’ for my running of the dance show, proves that I have experience speaking in front of large crowds and I can explain myself well to others. I believe that leadership is not just one skill, but a collection and balance of many different skills. Communication, organisation, self development, control and being a role model are just a few of the basic skills required to make a good leader. All are vital to a head girl who…
Lazy high school students will do anything to get out of a job. I led a few different groups in my drama department, who never wanted to be working on theater. They were the type of people who would come up with any excuse in the book to get out of work. Many fell under the category of a logical fallacy. An illogical fallacy is a persuasive way to make people think a certain thought with no real basis or evidence.…
