Once outside of JFK Airport I struggled to get out of the parking lot. Seems like every taxi in the city is taken. I eventually asked for help, and was soon on my way. I got in the back seat and told the driver where I had to go; the Empire State Building. When I arrived, the lady in the lobby, Ms. Davis, told me about the careers offered here. I ended up having a job as a janitor because of my lack of education and skill. But it is a living. Forty hours a week, for nine dollars an hour. I mean, things could be worse. Luckily I was able to find a job though. Back home in Syria, my family is always running… running from danger because of their religion, never able to settle down and find a career for themselves. When they got off the plane, I met them at the luggage pick-up. My mama and papa had tears in their eyes when they took their first glance at me in four years.
