Personal Narrative: Becoming A Writer

I have always been a reader, I don't think there has ever been a time in my life where I haven't loved it. My mom is a teacher, so as a child reading was part of our everyday life. We had annual passes to the library and would attend the mommy and me events. I remember when I was about four or five, I would sneak a flashlight into my room and read Wizard of Oz. Although I couldn't actually read the words out of this huge chapter book, I would make the story up, pretending I knew what I was reading. As I got older, I matured on to books such as: Junie B Jones, Nancy Drew and other popular books. Because Nancy Drew books would give me nightmares and Junie B Jones was a little too easy, I enjoyed Judy Blume and Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls. …show more content…
I wrote a little, I don't remember what it was about, probably something nonfiction, but it only lasted for a couple months. I would love to make up a story if someone would do the physical writing for me. But, I don’t see that ever happening there for myself ever becoming an author

I can’t remember ever learning to write, and that had an effect on my unwillingness to do so. But, thankfully last year in Mr.Titherley’s class a learned a lot. His class improved and pushed my writing abilities in so many ways. Although I still have a whole lot of room to improve, without his class I would still be writing like a fifth grader. As for my best piece of writing, I would say it is the last essay I wrote in Mr.Titherleys class. I worked extremely hard on it and the work payed off, I got a good score and he asked to use it as an example.

I wouldn’t change anything about me as a reader, obviously I want to improve and grow but, I don’t think many people enjoy reading anymore and I’m extremely glad I do. As a writer, I hope my motivation to write grows in the future, and learn to love the actual process of writing not just the storytelling. I am excited for this new AP class to teach me useful things and grow me in unexpected

My first memory of reading was when I was little, about 4 or 5, and my mom would read to me when I was going to bed. By far my favorite book that she would read to me was “Where The Wild Things Are”. I loved the way the booked looked with the faded looking colors that made it look old and I loved the pictures of the wild things and how the kid was the king and everyone listened to him and I just loved it.…

My life has never revolved around writing, reading, but definitely not writing. To be honest, I’m not even sure when I learned to read and write, all I remember is the fact that I had the ability. In the first grade, I remember being in a church youth group where they wanted the high schoolers to do a play but wanted one younger kid to be in it. The age they had in mind was a kid who was in upper elementary or middle school, but my mom told them to let me try anyways. They decided to let me join the play, because they were impressed by how well I could read, I even helped the high schoolers memorize their lines and whispered them to them throughout the play.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

For most students, the moment the bell rings for summer, they never speak to their teachers again. Usually this applies to me as well, but last year, it didn't. Ms. Dirmeyer, my 7th grade Language Arts teacher, still keeps in touch with me, even though she’s not my teacher anymore. She takes interest in my writing, and has done several things to help me improve. Ms. Dirmeyer sends me emails with writing tips, along with worksheets directed towards improving my writing.…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

My writing experience in and out of school has almost always been seen exactly the same. It’s work, you do it for the grade and for some you suffer the entire time. On the occasional paper, usually one with no restrictions and you choose your subject, I find myself in a love and hate relationship with it. The fact being that writing papers has almost always been seen as homework for me. Have your paper done by this day, it needs to be this many words, and no grammatical errors just isn’t something I’d find myself getting hyped for every saturday night.…

I didn’t know what I was in for after that day. A writer’s key experiences is what makes them different from other writers and is crucial to their growth as a writer. The writing I composed in Mrs. Heningburg’s class was central to my development as a writer because it made me more confident in my writing and made me more aware of others reading my work as a writer. After hearing my last writing assignment's result in the class, I started expecting a high scoring on my writing works. The compliment about my essay from my sixth-grade teacher changed me, so let's start from the beginning.…

I learned that all the prewriting is not the same there are different formats of writing. I haven't learned which essay writing best fits me. I believe that the one that fits me the most is the free writing because I can just write down anything and continue without stopping. I can write to whatever comes to mind and even though it doesn't make any sense I still write it down I feel that most of my best writing comes from free style writing. I can only do my best when I feel that I am able to more work under pressure and that I can relieve a lot of my stress by writing.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

Writing has never been one of my strongest skills nor my favorite. Even though I enjoy reading another person’s writing the thought of someone else reading mine just sends chills down my spine. I wouldn’t consider myself a decent writer whatsoever. This defiantly gets in the way of how I feel about writing at times, because it makes me insecure of what others are going to think after they finish reading my essay. When I signed up for ENGL 1301 I was quick to assume the course was just going to consist of reading a lot of material and taking quizzes that covered the readings.…

Reflective Self Analysis As a freshman in college, I didn’t really like the sound of a writing class. In high school, my writing skills were average and my grades in my English classes reflected that. When reviewing the syllabus for this course, prior to the semester, the sound of five pages essays really made me sick to my stomach. At the time, I wanted to possibly try to just skip the class somehow, but instead, I decided just to get it over with already.…
