I knew Jesus was real and had enough faith to tell the non-believers I worked with about him. One of my co-workers gained respect for me because of the values I held in my heart and respect I had for women. Becoming friends with him I realized he was not in the best of situations. He was in an unstable relationship with his girlfriend, did not have a well-paying job, and had only one pair of jeans. It was Christmas time and remembering that Jesus loves us all equally I felt buying him a new pair of jeans was my duty to be an example of the same love God has for everyone. As in almost all situation gaining respect and trust also mean gaining sometimes unwanted knowledge, gossip. Most of my bosses were respectful and knew their boundaries within speaking of situations and problems, but not my coworkers. I began to hear opinions of how they did not like what the doctor was doing or not liking certain employees. Then the talk progressed for the worst, there was the talk of people having sex with other people, people stealing money, doctors cheating on their wives, and even rumors were being spread to clients about the employees. Most of the talk about sex ended up being a lie, but the stealing of money was true and led to an employee being fired. The doctors were cheating on their wives and eventually got caught because the mistress’ wanted the men for themselves. The rumors, saying all of the employees at the clinic slept with each other, were being spread by one of the employee’s girlfriend who thought he was having sex with one of the ladies that worked with us. Knowing that most of these were not true I tried not to think about the rumors that were true, but it was stressful having to carry that unwanted knowledge on my shoulders while continuing to work with a non-stop flow of patients.
