It was a summer July morning. The park had just opened and the victims were arriving. The day seemed perfect. Too perfect. They were flowers blooming and people having fun, the sun was catching a perfect blue sky, and then there was me, screaming “Whatcha gonna do whatcha gonna do when i come for you?” chasing a squirrel, pretending to be a detective. My passion, since I was little kid, was being a detective or in investigation, and I didn't even realize it till i had to really think about it.

When I was little I think I had an idea of what i wanted to be, because, me and my cousin, Dalia, always played this game, we just called it Our game, because that was the only name we could remember. The game was basically taking something and hiding it, and we would give each other clues. If you found the item, you get a sticker. I was really good at it. We used stickers because that was the only thing me and her could afford at a dollar tree, and i was too short to reach for any other item. This book reminds me of how important being a detective is, and how surprised I am that I still have it.

The words from some distant past float through my mind: “It wasn’t a shooting or stabbing, so it’ll be difficult to investigate.” I knew what it meant at the time. Life went on. If I could have any career in the world I would be a forensic medical examiner. I remember being in pre-school or kindergarten and so on teachers and parents would ask what we wanted to be when we grew up, being kids everybody would most likely say famous, or president of the United states but as long as I can remember I have always wanted to work in the medical field. Many of my family members worked or, still work in the medical field, I have always looked up to them as a kid. Later, in life I found something else I was interested in. When I started high school I began to enjoy forensics and criminal justice.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

Imagine a little 12-year-old girl sitting on her bed, pencil in hand using her cell phone as a flashlight in the middle of the night, 10 pm (for a 12-year-old that is). She furiously scribbles into her notebook all the ideas that she had in her late night sleep. That little 12 year old was me, of course, that is what this assignment is about, you know my passion, so there could be no other person that this could be about. My interests in counseling is fuel by hurts and pain of people I observed throughout my lifespan. From the time I could speak, I saw family members, being taunted, by traumatic event that occurred throughout their lifespan. As I watched the hurt and pain of others consume them, I watch them suppressed the pain, in a harmful matter. For the future suppressing the pain, like substance abuse became an unconscious systematic coping method for stressors. Furthermore, as years progressed the hurt and pain presented itself through violence, verbal, and physical abuse.…

Introduction When deciding upon a profession to pursue it takes a lot of deep thought and careful consideration prior to making a decision.
