Personal Narrative: Beach Bums Children's Consignment Sale

Today is the 4th day straight that we have been "snowed-in" in the South Eastern part of Virginia. As much as I have LOVED everything that comes with snow days for example, comfort junk food, hot chocolate, potato soup, staying in our PJ's all day and more rounds of Monolpy Junior than I can even count it was about time to use my time off of work wisely. When I say wisely I mean what can I do to help out my family live and save better????

When we found out we were pregnant with our one and only I heard all of my Junior League Friends going crazy over some kid's sale. Now remind you I was only about 5 WEEKS pregnant when I went to check out this sale. I did not know what the gender would be nor was I sure that this pregnancy would survive since this was our first round of fertility medicine. However, the smart shopper in me said "It's a sale!!!!! YOU HAVE TO GO!!!!!!" On I went to check out this sale called Beach Bums Children's Consignment Sale located in Newport News, VA. Not only did I go but I also suckered my mom into going as well since I knew she would need things at her house since the baby was staying with her 2 days a week during the school year.

As I said “goodbye” to Johns Creek, I began venturing on a new journey. I would have slept on the long 8-hour expedition if not for the spectacular books that we had brought on the trip. I always feel great about volunteering. One of my favorite memories is when on of the moms used to always thank me for watching her little son Elijah. She was so kind to me, she did not have to be kind. She was going through a lot, and she took her time to be kind and have conversations with me. I have not seen her for a long time, but I remember her appreciation.…

I think this says a lot about the ministry this groups does and how much time and commitment the staff has for it. They work so much with people and giving them comfort they didn’t have time to waste on trivial things. As a group we were able to bless them by painting a racket ball court and doing outside yard work like trimming bushes and pulling weeds. During this morning we were there I was able to work outside.…

Anna Maria Florida It was a hot, humid Sunday in Anna Maria Florida. We were going to the beach with the 3 other families that went with us. It was about a five minute walk from our house we rented to the beach, which really felt like five hours because I was really excited. Once we FINALLY got there my friends and I decided to take our shoes off and find a perfect spot in the white hot sand to set up of chairs and umbrella. We took our clothes off because our swim suits were underneath and sprinted to the clear blue ocean.…

Each year, a pilgrimage to the Florida or Alabama gulf coast is a highly anticipated and enjoyed event for my family. In the beginning, it was just my wife and I. Man oh man, these trips were some of the most relaxing times that I can remember. Now, our yearly “beach fest” includes our two children, Kaylee and Garrett. While this is still a wonderful family event, I no longer use the phrase “relaxing”. Elbert Hubbard once said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who just had one”.…
