Personal Narrative: Bayshore Collapse

Decent Essays
This year I started high school, which was scary at first. Because Bayshore splits a lot of my friends went to south. I had to make new friends, figure out how to get to my classes, and have a lot more schoolwork. I was so worried about going to school I wasn't as focused on my school work. My mom saw that this was hard for me and sat me down. She told me that setting your mind to something and working hard will take me far. I realized she was right and set a goal for myself.

The first two days in California we stayed in a nice motel, and it even had a swimming pool.…

In 1967, my great grandmother settled in San Francisco from Nicaragua, a small country in Central America. The atmosphere of San Francisco at this time was one of acceptance and peace, stemming from the Summer of Love and the Haight-Ashbury culture. Coming from a poverty-stricken country, and having visited before, the Bay Area was an opportunity for a new life, better conditions, and job possibilities not available at home. Unfortunately, lack of a basic education and understanding of American culture hindered her opportunity to obtain legitimate employment. California offered her the opportunity to utilize her entrepreneurial skills and start her own bakery after a fews years of settling in the city.…
