Personal Narrative: Basketball Isn T Just A Sport In My Life

Improved Essays
Basketball isn’t just a sport to me it’s my life. My dad was a coach of a boys team when I was first born, and my mom and I would always go to his games. In fact, his whole entire team signed a little plush basketball for me. I think that basketball is somewhere floating around my house still to this day. My dad, was the person to get me involved in basketball. I mean I was three, it’s not like I told him that I wanted to play basketball. Without him signing me up for the bitty ball league, I wouldn’t have scored my first ever basket. The first time I scored my first basket will be a time I will always remember. I was three years old, with the longest basketball shorts ever. I mean these short were down to my ankles. I was lifted up by my Cousin Matt, …show more content…
I played in the league with my two other cousins who were a year older than me. Now, only one of them is still playing basketball till this day. Eventually, when I was too old to play in bitty ball, I then played in a league called Upward. I played Upward for three to four years. Now, the only thing about Upward is that you didn’t play on a hardwood floor, you actually played on carpet. I would always come home after our games with rug burns. Upward was also based around good sportsmanship, so after every game you would get a certain colored star that represent something you did good at that game. For example, if you got a gold star that means you had a really good game and you were the M.V.P of that game. I don’t remember the stars I got. All I remember mostly is that I felt unstoppable during most of my games. I felt on top of the world and that I was the greatest 5 year old basketball player. I was also a huge ball hog, when I had the ball you know I was never giving it away. I also felt that I was a scoring machine and I would dropped 20 points a game, but in reality scoring an average six to eight points, which is still very good for a 5 year

That was embarrassing I love the game of basketball, even when I score in the other team’s basket. In my defense, I was only six years old and it was my first time being on a basketball team. Me and my older brother Houston were on the same team, and at the time we were losing by seven or eight points and there was hardly any time left in the game, maybe a second or two. I was always the smallest kid on the court…

On my mom side, there was a lot of kids that played the game of basketball and they were pretty good at it. The fun thing about it was if you win, you win a prize and i think that was pretty cool because that’s when a lot of kids actually try. The prizes were top ramen and top ramen is very popular at home and we also play for like one dollars. When it was my team's turn to play, I was very nervous and back then was a very shy kid, so when we started playing, I couldn’t even play. Also I didn’t know that basketball had rules because when I used to play with my dad, he never told me if I ever double dribbled, traveled or even anything illegal.…
