I remember when I played tee-ball at 4 and 5 years old. My coach put me batting last which meant I was the best hitter on the team. In tee-ball, everyone bats every inning, so the last batters job is to score everyone on base and for me to score myself by running to home until the other team gets me out. I rarely got out because I was pretty fast. I don’t remember much from tee-ball because I was young.
After my tee-ball experiences, I went on to coaches pitch for a parish league. The park we played at was called Stevens Park. I was familiar with it because my brother had played there before me. I remember how much I loved to go there to play baseball. I played for the Cardinals, which is my favorite major league team today, and we were pretty good. My Dad coached me when I was 8, 9, and 10 year old. We were good when I was 8 and 9 and we won a state championship when I was 9. That team eventually split up so when I was 10, the team I was on wasn’t very good. I believe we won one game and we went crazy after that game. It felt like we won the championship. It was a great feeling for a 10 year old to have. From when I was 11 to 14, I was coached by a man, who was not my Dad, that knew the game of baseball very well and was a cool guy to be around.
