Personal Narrative: Barnes And Nobles

Improved Essays
After my birthday party a good friend of mine had given me a $20 gift card to buy some books at Barnes and Nobles. If you didn't know Barnes and Nobles is a bookstore that sells anything book related. A month later I visited Barnes and Nobles to buy some books. The door opened and the aroma of coffee filled the air. I walked past the aisles looking for a book that caught my eye. I eyed the “Artist’s Guide of Drawing Everything” but along with the book was a tag that read $45. My thoughts faded away. I then looked at the writing department. Abruptly I dash towards the aisle. Consequently I looked around and found a book called, “Writers Inspiration and Motivation.” I looked at the sticker attached to the small book, “ Ten dollars.”

Hi Dianne - I met with my team about the education piece typos. It was our error, not the Copy Shop. Three team members proofed the piece in addition to the Copy Shop designer?!? The key factor was Kate’s departure and the change in the systems we had there. Kate is an excellent proofer and we were relying her for that function too heavily.…

I stand in the stationary section of Walmart looking at journals. The shelves tower over me as I take in the possibilities that await for me on this quest. The journals that catch my eye are not the standard compositions, but the red ones, blue ones, and the colorful Lisa Franks. I continue to the pens; only the most colorful would do. My eyes rake across each package until I come across the one that I know is the most powerful tool the world has to offer.…

As a kid, I had no responsibilities other than school, and sometimes sports. I was fortunate enough to not have to do chores, or have a job at an early age. I essentially, could manage my time how I pleased; playing Xbox, baseball, being on my phone whenever, as long as I kept my grades up and wasn't in trouble. My parents gave me this privilege, because they knew what a well-behaved kid I was, and somehow trusted that my Dad’s work ethic would eventually just naturally rub off on me when the time was right. Although my experience sounds great, I felt empty, because I wasn't doing anything productive.…

“Alright now Skin, I need you to be my leadoff here and get a rally going!” I do not respond, because I obviously know how important this one at bat is for the team and for myself. One thing coach loves doing, making sure I know how much I am accountable for. There is no comment to explain to me of how dependent I am on these upcoming moments for the team, so don’t make it any worse. To start off and to have the power to set the tone of the whole inning.…

Everyone remembers the day it came. I was just doing normal kid stuff when I heard a loud bang. “Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

A girl at school once asked me, “How are you in this constant state of reading?” I laughed because the answer is simple: I love to read. I chose books as a symbol because reading and literature is very important to my culture and my family. When my father was young, his grandmother used to read to him every day, and my father did the same for my siblings and I. Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read, and I own many books that I keep on shelves.…

The first thing I would like to state is that remembering where I wrote my reading logs was the hardest thing to do. As I was looking at my reading log I would see how uneven the numbers would very. Like one week I would read around 57 pages but the next only 33. So as I looked back in my books, I realized that when I get bored with the book I tend to just skim read. But when I read a part I really like I will read it over three times to soak up the information.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store.
