I exited the lobby met by the cool morning breeze as I trudged a distance through the sprawling city to the bus stop, and picked away at the petals. The thud of heavy footsteps reeled me out of thought. The flower slipped from my hands as I pivoted around, but there was no one behind me. “Maricel, Maricel, Maricel, Maricel” A voice reverberated, in a cool, guttural whisper ricocheting off the lamp poles gradually growing louder and more threatening. I quickened my pace as my breath hitched.…

Even though the job caused a lot of stress, I believe it taught me to multi-task, be efficient, and work under pressure. The best way I deal with stress, is to see it as a challenge.…

I lost my grandmother when I was in my second year of college. My whole world collapsed as one of the brightest stars of my life, a light that guided me, had suddenly disappeared into the night. I had nowhere to turn, panic attacks would set in, seeing my other grandparents would cause such thoughts, I would spiral out emotionally. I worked to go to community college, but there was no heart in work or school, I was only getting by. I had help from family and friends, but I never had it within me to change.…

Being told how amazing and special we are has been written in our brains since the day we were born by our parents. Although this perception of ourselves may lead to less anxiety or depression, it can also cause many different problems with our relationships with other people. One example from my own personal life comes to mind, which is when I was beginning to date at the age of only 13 years old, when I still dated females. This romantic and star-crossed lover relationship only lasted about 1 week. It ended dramatically with her telling me that I was rude and mean, slapping me, and storming off.…

I am terrified of my generation, and it’s a type of terror that stems from awe mixed with fear of the inevitable end. We’re the generation of wunderkinds who burn out in high school, overextending ourselves before we’ve even experienced the real world, and so often this results in bitter peers who know that they’re right without any arguments, no matter how unrealistic their ideals might be. I appreciate idealism, I consider myself pretty idealistic, but there are those just don’t get that the world doesn’t come to them on a silver platter: The most prominent appearance of these types always showed in my government class, where opinions were slung across the room in tones ranging from thinly-veiled distaste to outright disrespect. Given that we were required to share our world views one-on-one, I, as the most neutral…

My experience of stress can be best described as a rollercoaster, steadily climbing and once at the top it can plunge down and back up and to the left and to the right, almost as if the stress is controlling the ride. Stress has changed over the years as well. My early childhood life didn’t include the worry of life, but the concern of self. I grew up as a very shy individual and was constantly scared to talk or speak in many situations. I am not sure how or why I was a shy individual, but it was a big stressor during my early development.…
