B is for Bowling Alley

I was 6 or 7 living in Pekin, Illinois. I met my two best friends, Tyler and Matthew, at my school, Willow. They always stood up for me when someone tried to tease me or bully me.

Tyler’s birthday party was coming up, we were all very excited. Tyler was planning to have the birthday party at the bowling alley.

Do you know the green building you see as you come off the Pekin Bridge? Well that is the bowling alley called Roxy’s I used to love to go bowling when I was around that age. And that is also the place he Tyler wanted his birthday party.

The day I was getting ready to go to the party my mom decided to get me pants from Goodwill. They were brown with a pink flower on the side. I hated them so much. They were also really loose on

We ended up going to Hardies right behind Roxy’s. I remember always getting chicken strips, with barbeque and ketchup. ( Hardie’s fries were disgusting so I cried about that.) Mom still made me eat the soggy fries that they served. I hate their fries, I hate their milk shakes, I hate their burgers, and I hate them all together.

My eyes were puffy and I was wearing the ugliest pants ever, but I was still looking forward to the party. The birthday cake was one of the only things that was on my mind. As soon as I walked through the door I went straight to the restroom to wash my face and get the puffiness off my face.

I got walked with my mom to the booth where you get your bowling shoes. The employe asked if I was apart of Tyler’s party, I said I was. I put on my shoes and went over to the tables where the balloons were set up at.

When I was on my way over there my pants fell down. Thank Goodness nobody saw but I hurried and pulled them up. The whole time I was pulling my pants up because I let my mom pick out my pants.

A Taste of Domesticity in Stokes State Forest Throughout my four years of high school, I had never had a friend come back from a post-prom weekend in Wildwood and describe to me what sounded like a “good time.” The stories they told always had the same synopsis that centered around drunken fun and even drunker stupidity. Hordes of juniors and seniors slept in small dirty motel rooms. They spent way too much money on alcohol, and they often got swindled into paying hundreds of dollars to stay in an otherwise dirt cheap motel because no decent place would allow teenagers to party like they did. They sat in their hotel rooms and drank the beautiful New Jersey beach days away, waiting for the sun to set so they could continue their drunken…

There is a common saying that states, “Which weighs more; 200 pounds of bricks or 200 pounds of feathers?” One might say that they both weigh the same; however, the answer is the feathers because you also have to carry the weight of the great injustice done to those poor birds. When I was asked to list all the things I carry, I started listing the physical items, but after a while, I realized that there emotional items that I carry as well. I carry memories and feelings that either haunt or delight me. And while the physical things I carry are largely based on necessity, the emotional things I carry will be with me forever.…

We were all so hungry that we ordered room service, while my brothers were in the pool with their friends. As I sat impatiently waiting for the food, I watched all of the cars pass by. I wondered what it would be like to drive, what car I would drive, how fast I would go, where I would go, the possibilities are endless. After about twenty minutes we finally ate, I don’t think I have ever been happier to see food in my life after such a long day.…
