I was at a coney island with my Grandma and Mom having a nice girl's day out when my boyfriend sent me a screenshot of something our friend Ryan told him. “By the way my sister, Chloe, overdosed last night.” With the way Ryan is I thought he was joking. He really did hate Chloe and wished she was dead, and with the rest of his family. My boyfriend texted one of his co-workers, who happens to be their neighbor, and asked about it. He replied, “Yeah I don't know what happened, but there were a few cop cars and an ambulance at their house last night.” When I found that out I was in serious shock, since it wasn't just a joke. I knew she used drugs, but I never realized how bad they were. I thought she just smoked weed or took Adderall or something, but was I wrong. Then the question popped into my head: “ Wait, did she kill herself?” What made it worse is that I had been really good friends with her in the past, and this happened the day before my birthday.
The night before her funeral, the toxicology reports of what she overdosed on came back to her family. Ryan told us it was Oxycontin and Morphine. The day of her funeral, he also told us that his grandma, who had cancer, and was living with them, had died that morning because she was low on Morphine.

We were close for about two years, but fell out for some reason. Chloe went to rehab twice during the time I was friends with her brother and he hated her for it because right after, Chloe would come out she would chug a few bottles of cough syrup as soon as she came home. It still deeply affects me because I realize death and addiction are so real. In the future, I will take this experience as a guide to watch my friends carefully, and to get them help if I see them acting as Chloe
