Aspire for the Future Every child aspires at a young age to be something great when they grow up. Of course, like most little girls, I aspired to become a nurse. From my grandfather being in hospice and my great grandmother living in a nursing home, I was interested in the medical field at a very young age. I never once thought that I would change the direction I wanted to go in because I have a determined personality type. During my junior year of high school this would all change. I realized the world is not a nice place like it is portrayed to be as a young child. I realized that I need to be the change in the world I wanted to see, so I took on that challenge to myself. This challenge would be to become a state tested nursing assistant …show more content…
It was time for lunch and we were assisting feeding with some residents that were not able to feed themselves. Doing what I was told, I feed the women I was supposed to and I socialized with her too, like an STNA should. Often, this is the only socialization some have the whole day. The STNA I was shadowing continued to degrade this man telling him he was nasty because he could not swallow his already puréed food correctly. The aspects of quality care clearly were not met by this particular STNA and she did not use compassion. I am happy to say that I did meet some very good nurses and aids during my shadowing times that had very good aspects of quality care. For the second stage to be reached, physiological has to be reached first and so on and so forth. The final stage, self-actualization, can only be reached if the four below it are completed in order first. This hierarchy is used throughout the world to make sure motivational needs are met. Many times these needs are not met and residents are left depressed and dependent of others. This was the case with many residents in all of the nursing homes I attended. Examples of the needs listed above are the following: first stage is water to survive, second is a home to be safe in, third is love and feeling like you belong, fourth is getting awards to boost your esteem, and the final fifth is knowing exactly who you are and what your goals are for the

Most little girls dream of being a ballerina when they grow up, I was the little girl who dreamed of medical school. The care that I could see him exhibit in his daily operations as well as the ease at which he interacted with patients and parents alike inspired me.
