Personal Narrative: Anderson Elementary School

I’m a bit of a scaredy cat. I jump at random things and freak out in certain situations, much to the annoyance of my friends. I especially freak out when I’m lost. Getting lost is scary within itself. Getting lost when you’re young and tiny in a strange place is even more terrifying. The annual corn maze trip was an eventful day for me on that chilly fall day in 2009. That was the day I learned how terrified I was to be alone.
Every fall, Anderson Elementary School would take their students on a small fun trip. It was a way to welcome in the new school year and for students to get acquainted with one another for the chance to possibly make friends. This year, I was not only new to the school, but they changed their destination from a local park to the corn maze in the next town. Little me, being young and naive, was super excited.
The whole trip, the two friends that I had previously made and I were bouncing with excitement and chattering about what we’re going to do once we get there. “I think I want to try out the new slide they put in.” One said, her blue eyes glistening with excitement. “I heard that you have to wear a potato sack just to go down it.” “I just want to see what they packed us for lunch.” The other said, giggling a bit.

I didn’t realise I was lost until I was met with a dead end. I started panicking and crying, looking around in a frenzy hoping that some kind of miracle would happen. I was met with walls of corn wherever I turned making me feel sick to my stomach. Luckily, a small family that were in the maze took pity on me, a hysterically crying nine year old. They tried to calm me down to the best of their ability, and lead me back to my class. I sighed in relief finally feeling safe seeing the slightly familiar faces, but I was hiccuping a bit from my previous

We went to Workman’s Chapel, which is right outside of Maryville. Workman’s Chapel is an old haunted church and cemetery. The story behind Workman’s Chapel is that a preacher stabbed a woman in a white dress to death and hid the knife under the floor boards of the church.…

In the essay ‘Take Me out of Their Ball Game’ by Maria Guhde Keri, the author illustrates a prevalent situation in any child's life, “Did you ever walk into a room where kids are playing, say, a board game? They're animated, excited, totally focused on what they're doing. When you appear, they stiffen, grow quiet, and appear confused. An adult is watching, and suddenly the game and rules are changed-maybe even ruined.” In this scenario the presence of an authority figure sours the mood.…

There is a lot to expect when going somewhere unknown. There is that sense of excitement about going somewhere, but there is also the sense of fear along with it. There is also a sense of wonderment and awe when learning something new along the way. What I hope to get out of this experience going to Big Bend over spring break is quite simple.…

"I disagree, treacle tarts are hands down the best dessert you can ever taste. With its buttery and caramel flavor, I'm pretty sure no one could ever avoid the enchanting sight and taste of it!" I exclaimed, walking side by side with Gwen. After class, she approached me and invited me to their home for dinner which I find overwhelming; I hesitated at first because of ~wait for it~ Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, they'll undoubtedly ban me from hanging out with Gwen. It's their ingenious hobby to be certain that nobody will be too close to me by spreading foul rumors about how dangerous and odd I am --…

Last month, I had a chance to visit both Mahayana temple and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The reason I picked Buddhist temple and Catholic cathedral is because I’m personally fascinated with some beliefs in Buddhism, and I am also interested in Catholic traditions. At first, I had thought that this trip would be boring and rough, but I have to admit that I enjoyed it a lot and I’ve got many things out of it.…

Vegetarian Vernacular The soft daylight cautiously showed itself on the floor in patches; the thick curtain muting harsh rays and only allowing the sun’s light to truly show itself in dancing geometric patterns from where the cloth didn’t quite cover the window. The entryway to my room was closed , the windows shut, and the air dry and dusty. An ever evident white noise of a small black fan disclosed the continuous clicking of a computer’s mouse. The internet was a vast place, and one that was certainly easy to get lost in. And lost did I sure get.…

15 days until deployment -------- "I have two weeks, a day, and approximately 8 hours with Lauren. To put it into simpler terms that 's 15 days or 21,600 minutes. Probably 21,598 minutes after figuring out the conversion of days into minutes. Lately, I 've been reading a lot of books on military families and children, which I think was to make me feel better but has seemed to do the complete opposite. As if telling me to prepare for death and to stay positive during it would help me feel better about my soon-to-be wife going to war.…
