It seemed like every weekend my father would take my sister and I to my grandparent’s farm. There were all kinds of things to do, like play with the puppies or the cats or just run around. My sister and I would help my grandparents pick apples, raspberries, and strawberries. We would also help my grandma make pies and cookies. We were always busy doing something. My grandparents bred Samoyeds. Because of this my sister and I liked to play with the puppies and dogs. My mother and father had had two Samoyeds from my grandparents, one was named Bailey and the other was Zoey. Though Bailey died before I could remember. Zoey was a good dog, but mainly stayed at my grandparent’s farm. My grandparents sold many puppies, but eventually stopped breeding

Here is an example of this. I was about twelve years old and I had a mutt from the pound. He was a beautiful soft coated black dog, who weighed less than a feather when he would jump on me. I cannot for the life of me remember his breed but I called him Gizmo.…

Our Chinese Shar-pei didn't have a name when we picked him out from the shelter. The staff was calling him Wrinkle Face. It suited him. A good samaritan had found him walking along the side of the road and brought him in out of the bitter cold. His folded skin gave him the appearance of being draped in a brown burlap sack and he had a nose like a hippo.…

In many ways, individuals often struggle against their fears. The time I experienced this was when I used to ride steers a couple summers ago. It was a hot July day and my dad and I had just finished helping my Rodeo queen sister get ready for carrying flags to start off the rodeo. After when we walked over to the stands to get ready for their riding, I was gearing up to ride one of those beasts they call steers, thinking I was going to get killed.…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

“Mia can you go walk A field and the corral?” my supervisor asked over the walkie-talkie as I finished bringing in fifteen excited dogs from group play. By this point I had already walked more than a dozen dogs, fed half the kennel, and taken out over a hundred dogs for one of their daily outings. I was exhausted and now I had to pick up a field full of dog feces.…

I have been through so many experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. However, there is one experience in particular that moved me in ways I can hardly put into words. My freshman year of high school, I was given the opportunity to join the Klondike FFA Milk Quality Career Development Event team. Studying and competing in this event led me to develop a fighting hunger for winning. Halfway through my first year, I realized that I did not like to lose.…

In my earlier years of school, I dreaded going to school and I wasn’t skilled in public speaking. I had a terribly hard time talking to new people and often avoided social situations. These being among the traits many consider unfavorable, I passed up on great opportunities that I had been given due to their social aspect and the potential for me to embarrass myself. Starting my freshman year of highschool, I was aware that adjusting to an independent lifestyle where I worked a job and made my own money was one of my main priorities.…

The first time I had a phone I was in elementary school, and had it for about 2 years. Then as life moved on, and events took place, I was not allowed to have one, and did not have one for almost two years. When I was in fourth or fifth grade I was allowed to have another one and kept it until the sixth grade. My dog had torn it apart, and because of financial reasons, there was only one phone in the house, between three people, and it was a old slide up phone. Not a touch screen…

Throughout her life, my mother incessantly made sure she completed all her tasks, prioritized, and, all in all, stayed “on top” of all her duties. Summertime comes around, vacations start to be planned, and my mother starts prioritizing, devising, and organizing every aspect of the trip. In addition, because my mom would set her goals, complete them, and did not procrastinate, she ended up being promoted at her job. Her employees and boss realized how dedicated she was to all her task and she became manager of her job position. These characteristic my mom acquires are ones I can relate to because in my high school life I have had to obtain these qualities.…

Late August, I was enjoying my last days of summer until one late night, I overheard my dad conversing with my mother and brother about something I wasn’t aware about. This conversation led to my dad leaving with a gloomy expression on his face, and my mother attempting to calm down my panicking brother. My mother calmed my brother down, but this news my dad told them gave me a feeling of apprehension. My dad’s career change taught me to prepare for unexpected circumstances and to distribute time equally rather than focusing on one topic. Early in September, my father unexpectedly announced to me that he lost his job due to struggling economy.…

During my junior year of highschool, just before I started my second semester, my parents sat myself and my two siblings down in our living room. They told us that they had something important to tell us, and that they had waited this long to tell us because they had wanted us to enjoy the holidays. The last time they had done something like this, they were telling us our great grandmother had passed away. I was immediately worried that I would be attending my second funeral in a span of two years. What came next left me hollow: we had to remove all of our animals from our property.…
