Although I've tried to completely focus on school during my high school career, I experienced a couple roadblocks throughout these four years. The summer before sophomore year, I decided to get a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy and a liver biopsy. This surgery and procedure were extremely hard to go through. As a result of this surgery, I lost a total of seventy-five pounds. I’m now a much happier person, and enjoy living life to the fullest. During sophomore year, my parents began the process of filing for divorce. My mother was constantly working to pay off her lawyer fees, and my dad was never home. I took the place of a parent for my little sister, and was in a position of extreme responsibility. Junior year was definitely the hardest for me.

Although moving has brought me some misfortune, and many people would say that living overseas qualifies as adversity, I never felt it was such.…

This week I have been focusing on technique. My mentor said that was one of the most important things, when learning how to play the guitar. He said, since my fingers hadn’t learned the difference yet that I might as well learn how to do it the correct way. This is because as I continue it will be easier to play, and will in the end, sound better. He always says that anybody can pick-up a guitar and learn how to play, but to become a musician it takes practice and dedication.…

All my life I have been told to do better and to be better. I have strived for excellence many times throughout my life. More often than not, I strived for this excellence in my education. Sadly, I have been told multiple times on many accounts by my educators that I am not good enough or that I cannot reach a goal that I strive for whole-heartedly. Being considered an AIG (Academically Gifted) student was a title that I did not obtain.…

Purchasing a car, whether new or used is a very large expense. For my family and I, waiting until after college to buy the car would be most beneficial. I am looking to purchase a used 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, the car’s price will most likely drop after another six years. Reasons for waiting until after college are, price drops, having a higher paying job, and also having a higher credit score. First of all, the Mustang’s starting price was $60,445 which means the car has depreciated $11,000 in about three years.…

I don’t remember it that well, but my parents divorced when I was around three years old. I vaguely remember my father getting on a plane at the airport to go back to Guam and my mom, brother, and I waving good-bye. I have heard stories about why they split, saying that it had nothing to do with my brother or I, just differences between the two. As I grew older, I would still get presents in the mail on my birthday, Christmas, and even Halloween. He would send mangos from Guam, pictures of him fishing and even working (as a firefighter).…
