Growing up I’ve always had this burning urge and this desirous want to be just like everyone that surrounded me. I didn’t value or understand the true beauty in being different. When I was younger I used to have this thing about wishing to fit in, and I was always very anxious too. To be honest, I am actually exhilarated that my wish never came true. I have come to realize that I am not here to fit into the world but that I am here to build my own. I have made mistakes in my life, I have let people take advantage of me, and I have accepted way less than what I deserve. There has been a lot of bad decisions I have made based upon my friends & the people I was around. I started to see that this burning urge had caused me to grow languish. It …show more content…
So I started working on myself and my future also for the greater good. Shortly after one dwindling year my family encouraged me to get back in school and to further my education. I had recently dropped out my 11th grade year due to a discordant altercation. I currently am attending school at Atlanta Job Corps to get my diploma and a trade in business and finance. After I finish school I plan on getting a job with the trade that the school will provide me with. This will help my family and I continue to mold our lives. I also have dreams and goals that I have put in place for myself. One of my goals is to start my own business in cosmetology and also one in music production. I have a deep passion for music. I have been in love with music all my life. I plan to attend school for this to learn the legal & finance side of the music industry. As for cosmetology, I plan to learn and study more about hair styling, skin care, nail care, and makeup all in one comprehensive program. Subsequently, I have learned from my bad choices, and even though there are some things I can never get back and choices that I can never undo I will know better the next time and I will not settle for less than what I

One day I would want to become an orthodontist which mean after high school I have 10-11 more years of school! This might sound weird but I do pageants. I hope one day I would have the chance to compete for Miss USA or Miss Teen USA. I don’t really shared this part of my life because pageantry has a negative view but pageants has done a lot for me as a person I’m currently taking Kumon outside class…

I reminisce when I was just beginning my adolescent years. I was a bystander to what my parents had to struggle with, and they’ve told me about their journey. Five years, they knew nothing, absolutely anything about speaking English. When they would go out somewhere their only way of communication was using their hands. One thing I remember my father would tell me, “I didn’t take this journey for myself… I did it for you so you would have a greater opportunity than me.”…

In elementary school, one of my teachers was especially infamous for humiliating students. I remember him loudly shaming one of my classmates, scoffing at the work turned in. Another moment that stuck with me was when I had stayed in during tutorial for help with math concepts, and he became increasingly angry when I made a mistake on the problems. I ended up developing a deep-seated fear of rejection. I generally avoided talking to my teachers for help from then on, hoping that the lack of interaction meant they would not give me grief over the mistakes I would make.…

Slaves to batteries and power outlets; we have entered the new America. Energy, power, electricity all impose the same idea for us in today's world. We are in an ever ending loop of searching for a source of power that is both efficient and clean. As a child, the thoughts of how electricity powers everything from a toaster to our own brain sparked my interest in electrical engineering. The thoughts of creating light from a potato is unfathomable.…

As I confidently walked into the DMV, I firmly handed over my paperwork to the employee. I announced, “I have a ten o’clock appointment for Olivia Sestito.” The short time in which I waited for my name to be called, my body overturned with a strong nervous feeling. A few prolonged minutes later, I hopped back into my car and pulled up to the side of the building to attempt my second driving test. The instructor walked over to my side and signaled me to roll my window down after she examined my car.…

I am the second youngest of 5 children born to the 13ers generation. My father was born in Mexico, while my mother lived her life in the United States. My parents crossed paths unexpectedly and gave birth to a new generation. I lived my early years in a house that exceeded its capacity; 7 squeezed into 2 rooms,1 bathroom, and a basement. My grandparents watched over my siblings and I as our parents went to work while still managing jobs of their own.…

One, two, three, four, five, and the list goes on. I had a notebook in the third grade in which I would write numbers from one and beyond. Unfortunately that list was never finished; the fact that one could begin to write numbers from the day they were born to the day they would die and would not even be close to infinity is both scary and fascinating to me. This blew my eight year old mind. It sparked this passion in me to expand my knowledge of numbers, how they work and why they worked.…

As a child, your days are long and your adventures seem nearly endless, and yet, as you age your days instead become long, grueling sessions while life becomes a dreary pattern. However, this does not necessarily have to be, if you simply see through the child in your mind’s eye, life can still be just as exciting as it once was. When I was young, my mother sent me off to lessons each day at a small school nearby; there I was smothered into stillness and sentenced to silence. It seemed as if there was no adventure to be had in this cold, gray box filled with hard unyielding lines.…

Other activities this summer included a new-found sport, competitive mounted orienteering. It’s a treasure hunt on horseback. The idea is to use clues and compasses to find designated objects the fastest. Dave and I aren’t fast, but we had fun doing this a couple times. We also took a trip with the horses down to see my Mom on the farm.…

I can recall the beginning of my college exploration during my freshman year of high school. Straight out of middle school, college sounded like a crazy idea that only existed in dreams. My guidance counselor at the time was so enthusiastic for us to go to college. She was spewing out so much information to me I was overwhelmed. As a first generation college student, this all was something very foreign to me and my family— but I was intrigued by it.…

I was in my last few days of 3rd grade and I couldn’t wait for summer. Just thinking about all the good times I would have like camping, swimming, and playing baseball with my team, the Aces, had me giddy. As the last few days of school came to an end my anxiousness grew until it finally came. Summer, free at last. The summer was going great, the days where hot and had a humidness that stuck to you.…

Faith is something that I learned from my own life lessons. Faith to me means many things. The first thing that comes to mind when I remind myself of faith when i’m feeling down, is going to church. Being as jumpy as i was running off little sleep i went to my room where my sisters slept and found my littlest sister stiff but twitching and being only 14 i still knew she was having a seizure…
