This track season was the best time of my life, but it went by way too fast. I had no clue what any of the events were, but I caught on very fast because I started training with my cousin, He set the High School record for discus and still has it today. We started to work on throwing shot, and I got very good because we would work on my form for hours and because of that I was the best thrower the whole season. If you look at me compared to other throwers, I look very scrawny. I got 1st in most of my meets, but sometimes we would go against this one kid from Washington Middle and he looked like he was on steroids or something, he had a mustache too. I was always throwing just as far as he did, but he would beat me by 2 or 3 inches, except one …show more content…
I jumped 14.8 feet on my first jump! So that made me go to Sectionals for that too. When I went to Sectionals I had some pretty bad jumps because I just got done with another event and my leg were very worn out, but I still jumped 14.2 feet.

I was really passionate about the running events and so was my running team. We were very good from the start and we got better and better every time we practiced. I would look up the best ways to get a great start or how to get a better hand-off, because of that Trevor Heffren and I had the best hand-off out of our whole team. When we made it to Sectionals, some of my teammates was very nervous, because of that they kinda slipped up on the hand-off and almost got us disqualified. It was looking really close and he barely made the hand-off zone with the baton and we Just squeezed into the State meet!

When we got our seeds for the events we were ranked 3rd out of all the teams going to state. We even got to skip school on the last learning day to go to state. We had the worst tent out of every single other team. I just walked around the whole first day because my events weren’t until the next day, so I just walked around and met new people. We finally got to run the saturday after and we were really pumped up and were waiting for our seed to run and we finally went and had amazing handoffs but we still got

Many of us always want to win and be “number one”. We feel as if being “number two” is the end of the world, but it is not. People want to be the best but that takes hard work and commitment. Being ultra-competitive can keep us from enjoying life and we can lose sight of what is meaningful. When we are focused on winning all of the time, we do not accept losing and when we do lose, we beat ourselves up for it.…

I was having a good game but I needed to do something to stand out even more so I told the wingers that as soon as I get near the penalty arc to pass me the ball and sure enough on the next play they did. When I got the ball I passed one defender than I slotted in the bottom corner and scored but it did not matter my side still lost. After tryouts was over the coaching staff said to check the team's website within a week's time to see who made the team. I was exuberant because I thought my goal and performance earned rightfully deserved spot on the team.…

Drake stadium Is so beautiful. When you’re standing in the middle of the field this feeling of importance and accomplishment is overwhelming. My teammates and I are on the line ready for the gun to go off. Our hair is pulled back into tight braids that fade into pink, I can feel a sunburn starting on my scalp. I climb into the blocks and get my practice run through and a sharp pain pulls in my groin.…

Through life I have learned that worthwhile things cannot be learned in a day; however, bits and pieces of the puzzle can be. I started wrestling in elementary school at Virginia Military Institute and had no clue what impact it would have on my life. I was never passionate about the sport and often tried to find a way to quit but my dad and coaches pushed me to continue. I lost a lot of matches and felt that I would never see much success. I continued wrestling through middle school and still felt like I did not have what it took to be a competitive wrestler.…

I love running track. I know, it isn’t the most glamorous or exciting sport, but there’s nothing like the feeling of crouching at the start line flanked by athletes from all over the country. For me, running track is more than just racing for times or records, it’s a chance to represent my high school. My school has a reputation for being the nerdy and un-athletic school. To be fair, our mathlete team is ferocious.…

It was a month before tryouts, on a windy Sunday afternoon. I was in my neighbor's backyard, which has a basketball hoop. In 7th grade I didn’t have the best year for basketball even though I made A team. This year I had to make sure this was different. I was practicing as I had been for the previous couple weeks, working on my jump shot, my contested layups, and free throws.…

Going to State for cross country is one of my favorite things that I have done in my athletic high school career. It took hard work to get there and when we finally did that it was eventful and fun and was one of the best trips that I have ever had. It started out way back in June when a group of girls got together and went for a run. At that time we only ran about 3-4 miles or so, but by the middle of the cross country season we were running up to 6 miles everyday. We trained all throughout the summer increasing our mileage every week so that by the beginning of the season were were ready to race.…

I began my first year of high school a tiny, easily overlooked girl with maybe two friends on a good day and almost no hobbies. My routine of attending school, going home, doing my work, and going to sleep simply wasn’t cutting it. With the reaction time close to that of a garden slug and the coordination of a newborn giraffe, it was clear to me that taking up a sport would only end in my own mortification and probable injury. However, after a bit of research, I found the perfect option: cross country. No contact, complicated game plans, or heavy equipment required.…
