Initially when I took the test I received a tension quotient of 43%. The main reason for my high tension quotient, I believe, was mostly due to the way the questions were worded, and because of that I ended up retaking the test. I forgot to write down the tensions that I had in my first run. In my second run, my tension quotient dropped to 7%, and I had only one tension, which was also present in my first run. The one inconsistency is as follows: “You agreed that: It is always wrong to take another person's life... And also that: The second world war was a just war.” Apparently only 10% of people who had completed this activity had this inconsistency. I agree that this is a fallacy in reasoning on my side. One way that I could solve this contradiction

Those who advocated for war and convinced others were ignorant about the actual horrors of war because they were never on the battlefield. The reality was that, soldiers had to detach their emotions so they wouldn’t dwell on fear and death that was apparent all around them, the savagery of the war due to the casualties and the manner in which they died, and technological advances that aided in increasing the number of fatalities. Ultimately, those who physically participated in the war and in combat, knew the true repugnance of war. And, the disillusioned that advocated for war, did not comprehend the reality that the war was not for honor or nationalism because they did not physically participate on the war…

“War does not determine who is right- only who is left,” is a quote by Bertrand Russell. This spectrum expresses the casualties of war. In other words, Russell means war is used as an outlet to define a “winner”, or in this case, someone who is right. The veiled truth is that there are no true winners of war when comparing the damage created and the lives lost. Looking at war through that perspective, John F. Kennedy, among others, also agreed.…

However, the “losing party” may believe that they did not get attacked, instead, they chose to surrender and let the other party “win”. It can be seen that these two opposing parties will interpret the outcome, and their position in the war differently depending on which side (“winning” or “losing”) they were on. Therefore, the truth of the outcome of the war can only be judged by the individual or society that had participated. Moreover, we, as external observers, may assume that one party won and the other one lost. However, the “losing” party may not view themselves as the losing party; their claim to surrender may be seen as a correct and smart decision at the time.…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

Sometimes A failure isn’t a failure at all it’s just a minor setback. I learned this at the beginning of my 10th grade year. My teacher had told my classmates and I that we were able to be dual enrollment students at Germanna Community College. She informed us that we would have to take an entrance exam to be placed in classes that were suitable for us. When she said this we told her that we’d be ready and that we’d pass with no problems.…

Have you ever had something minor happen and multiple major things come out of it? I had an experience like that where I learned something interesting. It was an average Thursday, although it was a little hot for November, and it was recess time. I was running from my friend Connor when I decided to run under the slides, where a hornets nest happened to be right above.…

For as long as I can remember, as a child I was raised to believe that a man should be the king of his castle. When I was five years old, that statement became a fable to me. I felt the Judas kiss the day my dad left. His reign has ended as king of his castle. He relinquished his crown and abandoned his kingdom.…

As citizens, you may hear yourself say “ do the police have anything better to do”? I myself have caught myself saying those exact words when I witnessed a patrol officer parked on the side of the street with a radar gun. Managing police patrol time is an important police practice. Police Officers spend a lot of their time doing duties that are uncommitted. During this time Police Officers usually pass time by self-initiation, and they usually lack supervisors directives.…

A week into Fall, and the temperature was still lulling at 90 degrees, like the mosquitos that swayed comfortably above the bayou that ran for miles outside my English II class. The bayou would eventually diverge by my neighborhood. In class, the philosophical discussion on the Power of One by Bryce Courtenay also diverged. If Peekay could reach compos mentis (full command of one’s mind) after years of training, epitomized by a drunken bar fight, when would we ambitious students scrawled across plastic chairs and creaking wooden tables, reach compos mentis? Was it in adulthood, after college, or after the birth of our first child?…

This article is, in my opinion, an example of how personal narrative can sometime confuse the author’s purpose. In order to frame her arguments she discussed her experiences with her family, and specifically how she was born a twin to a stillborn sister. She explains her families lack of coping and how her family effected her life, but I failed to focus on the overarching idea that she wanted to get out because of how distracting the stories from her personal life are. Instead found myself thinking that her story was strangely personal without much justification for why it was this way. While the point of her article, the balance between truth and respect, was somewhat present overall, the sections of personal narrative that she decided to include muddled it.…
