This document is my proposal for my independent novel from quarter 3 of 11th grade. We went through a book to learn the proper formatting and technique. For my proposal, I needed to follow the format given in the textbook, and provide an outline for what my final project would be. This project was given to give us experience in outlining and forming a proposal.
I learned that creating a good proposal is not as scary as it seems. They really are straightforward. I appreciate gaining this knowledge about how to properly create a proposal. However, I didn’t like how we were only given one class period to create the proposal. I feel like I could have done a better job in condensing my ideas if I were able to have more time to work on it. Despite

About four years ago I was playing club lacrosse for the Villanova Wildcats travel team. I was about thirteen years old when I experienced one of my first significant lessons of failure. At a young age many do not understand the importance of failures and short comings, and how it is essential to learn, grow, and improve. We think success comes easy and without trial which is not realistic. My life changing failure taught me many things: the strength of teamwork, the power of preparation and will, and how to be a better competitor.…

I have always loved riding in cars. After a long day in first grade, I used to fall asleep to the engine purring in my mother's Honda Odyssey, even though it was only a 5-minute drive home. As I grew, and graduated into the shotgun seat, it became natural and enjoyable to look out the window. Seeing my world passing by through that smudged glass, I would daydream what I could do with it.…

When the opportunity came to find community service hours for my Human Growth and Development class, I knew I wanted to help out somebody who works hard to provide me safety. I talked to my dad after finding out I needed hours and he advised me to talk to the sheriff. The sheriff told me that he would gladly appreciate my help and he decided on a task for me: washing patrol cars. I thought that washing cars seemed like an easy enough task. The day before my service my dad informed me that I needed to bring our car washing supplies from home with me to the sheriff’s office the next day.…

On a snowy Christmas day at Sunrise Peak, there is a whiteout at the acme; snow is falling heavily, visibility is low, and the wind is unforgiving as it clashes against my bare face. I slowly start my descent down the mountain. As I begin to cut back and forth in a comfortable manner on my board I slip up. I try to turn to follow the slopes path, but I turned too sharply. The front of my board digs into the snow abruptly and causes me to plunge forward.…

Regardless of the fact that I have lived near the beach all my life, it’s not often I go on a long walk on a beach similar to the Smith Point County Park; nor have I witnessed the effects of a storm to such an extent in my life. A few of the major sections of the beach have been devastated due to the recent storms. These storms caused waves that have done remarkable damage to the point that I was having difficulty walking from the incline it created, days later it remains to cause an issue. The most chilling of all is how the dunes are slowly being worn down, from the constant bombardment of large waves from storms like Hurricane Sandy. Even though hurricanes are known for destroying our homes.…

For as long as I can remember, as a child I was raised to believe that a man should be the king of his castle. When I was five years old, that statement became a fable to me. When I was born, per my father, whenever you would talk to me, I wouldn’t show any reaction towards you. The only time I would ever react is when my mother was screaming about something and I would look around the room for the sound. In third grade, I would always get in trouble, perhaps because I didn’t listen when I was supposed to. This changed as soon as I got my hearing aids. I remember the molding of the hearing aid being stuck into ears, which felt like there was cold water in my ears.…

One might take for granted, the safety of suburbia. I was led to believe by my parents that in "a neighborhood like this," I would be perfectly safe. In the 7th grade, I had to take the bus that dropped me off quite a ways away from my house, meaning that I had to walk quite the distance to my house. It wasn't a major problem, just a minor inconvenience at best. The main reason I took this specific route was to save some minutes sleeping in the early mornings, but I digress.…
