The guidelines for this assignment were to select and tell the story of an argument that has shaped me into the person that I am today. I chose to share my struggle of being different in my family of extremely involved parents and athletic brothers. After a major argument and decision made with my parents, it was through lacrosse, which I never excelled at or cared much about, that brought me to realize that I am a natural leader. To write this narrative, I put much of my recent practice writing scenes to use to help a reader submerse into the story and make them feel as if they were actually present in that moment. I also kept a great focus on my narrative arc. I gave a great effort in trying to portray my feelings and the events that led

They never had. It was about the coaches who had pushed me, the friends I had made, and those who had believed in me. It was the long hours of schooling, the sore thighs and tired arms. It was the money I had spent, the miles we had hauled, and the ribbons I didn’t win. It was the hours of preparation, the aching fingers that formed the perfect braids, the wet jeans and the shining horse.…

When this essay was first introduced I was thinking about what event I should choose to attend due to the fact that the main focal point was to observe the audience and analyze. I was stuck between attending a sporting event or a play since both atmospheres would be very different. Eventually, fate helped me chose and I attended a sporting event. On Friday, January 13, at 7:00Pm, I decided to watch the Muskegon Risers SC; a local soccer team that my cousin plays for. Now, it was my first time ever attending a game in that arena and I began to take a couple notes just to see what terms fit with the specific audience.…

The past two weeks I have worked at northshore maternity and national womens community midwives. During my week at northshore it was incredibly busy and understaffed. I also remember thinking at times, where has the midwifery gone? We were so busy rushing around trying to provide safe and quality care to the women, but that fact is I feel we were too busy, with too larger case loads to provide true midwifery care. I cared for many day 1-2 sections, women with large blood losses requiring blood transfusions, a secondary PP and there was a woman with confirmed H1N1 on the ward who was unstable – but HDU wouldn’t allow her to be transferred around, and many other complex situations that really challenged my competence, knowledge and practice reasoning.…

This track season was the best time of my life, but it went by way too fast. I had no clue what any of the events were, but I caught on very fast because I started training with my cousin, He set the High School record for discus and still has it today. We started to work on throwing shot, and I got very good because we would work on my form for hours and because of that I was the best thrower the whole season. If you look at me compared to other throwers, I look very scrawny. I got 1st in most of my meets, but sometimes we would go against this one kid from Washington Middle and he looked like he was on steroids or something, he had a mustache too.…

I have had numerous angry spouts with my mother, over countless years. It has gotten to the point that it no longer feels like she’s close to me. Since I do care about my mom I decided to do my paper on her. Since my mom has a short temper it was rather difficult to prepare my approach because if I fail it will be a multi hour argument that accomplishes nothing but makes both parties very angry at each other. When the majority children think about their adolescent years they think about the joyful times, but I remember standing outside, with my Minnie Mouse suitcase, waiting for my father to pick me up like he promised, but he never showed. In general, I cannot remember much about him during the 10 year span of my adolescents that he was heavily drinking. My father and mother officially divorced when I eighteen months old and my mother was granted sole custody when she was twenty-two. I was walking down the old and cracked sidewalk to get to my somewhat new car that I had parked in a parking lot that was on the edge of the campus of the college as the other parking lots that I would normally have parked in had been full. I was trying to get my car before the heavy rain that I had heard was forecasted this morning on the news, as I was getting ready to go to college that would start soon. I had just gotten out of my last class of my fall semester of my senior year of college. I had thought that I had done fairly well on the last final and would be getting a high B or low A overall in the class. While I would normally had thought about what to do to celebrate that I had finished another semester that was not what I had been…

It was a brisk fall evening with the sun just about to set behind a hill. I was 10 years old, playing in my third season of football, and my first ever game under the bright lights surrounding the high school stadium. The time had finally come, the lights had been on and warming up for several minutes, I was going to play a game under the lights on the high school field. My experiences that night were not forgotten, but today I couldn’t even tell you if we won the game that night. The lessons I learned that night weren’t about winning and losing, I had done plenty of that already in my life.…
