I remember when I was five it was my birthday, I was opening presents, when I opened one from my mom and inside was a picture of a turtle, I knew that it meant that I was getting a turtle! I only had my turtle for about four months before it died. Then I remember I was seven I went to disneyland with my mom and dad, I went on a scary ride called the tower of terror. I loved it so much!

I have loved scary rides ever since the trip but when we went to mexico we did ziplines across the water, I was terrified, I never knew i was scared of hights. I was scared to look down. Then we did repelling and it scared me so much its like you falling, it made me want to cry (I didn't). We did more ziplines the second trip but that time we went on a big bridge

I always said while joking but serious at the same time, that God if I was not in the military I will give myself to you completely in ministry. A few months while deployed to Iraq my vehicle was hit with an I.E.D. and the armor truck rolled down a hill on top of me and shattered my right knee and many other injuries. “Spaghetti and hydrogen, what do they have in common?” I always remembered the question my physics teacher raised in first physics class in eighth grade. “From the leaves on the trees to the school bus that drives you here”, he continued, “for every matter in the world, there exist certain underlying rules that shape it into what it is, determine how it functions, and thus make it predictable and understandable.” Identifying his conclusion shapes me into a discerning observer. Ever since, I was spurred by an irresistible desire to find out the “underlying rules” that dominate the kaleidoscopic world.…

I’ve always been the black sheep of my family. I grew up only knowing adults who did physical labor or worked their way up in a technical profession. The only higher education anyone had was from the community college in town. My mom, sister, grandmothers, aunts, cousins were all young mothers; their work anchored in homemaking and part-time jobs. I had no idea, or encouragement, that I could ever make it to a traditional four-year university, let alone have the resources to pay for it.…

I lacked simple confidence, I would sit in the back of the classroom and not say a word. I figured if they can’t hear me, then I wouldn’t exist to no one. There was only one place where I felt more confidence about who I was, the pool was my, how you would say comfort place. I was able to swim to the very bottom and stay there for countless minutes thinking about my life, just enjoying the water on my skin and around me. Sometimes I would wish that I could just stay in the water forever and not have to attend class.…
