Jayden Henery sat in his old, rickety, plastic green chair doing his math homework. “What is the meaning of this stupid crap,” Jayden screamed. He heard a bark of a dog outside and stared out his bedroom window looking out at the night sky of San Diego, thinking why he can’t be grown up right this instant, because then he can run away from this stupid nightmare. Then Jayden looked back at his desk and down on his family picture, at least when he had an actual family, he looked at himself with his baby brown eyes and his perfect dark brown hair, thinking why couldn’t I look better. Then his mother, Catherine Henery, came to the left of him holding him in her long arms.…

As a child, your days are long and your adventures seem nearly endless, and yet, as you age your days instead become long, grueling sessions while life becomes a dreary pattern. However, this does not necessarily have to be, if you simply see through the child in your mind’s eye, life can still be just as exciting as it once was. When I was young, my mother sent me off to lessons each day at a small school nearby; there I was smothered into stillness and sentenced to silence. It seemed as if there was no adventure to be had in this cold, gray box filled with hard unyielding lines.…

I was born in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania. This would definitely fall under the umbrella of "small town" as it's reported population during the 2010 census was 1,700. I was never an observant child, as I was always playing video games, reading books, or doing some grade school homework. I remember only knowing a small handful of people, namely just those who lived in our little trailer park at the time. Everyone had that small town eccentricity we so often see romanticized.…

I was walking down the old and cracked sidewalk to get to my somewhat new car that I had parked in a parking lot that was on the edge of the campus of the college as the other parking lots that I would normally have parked in had been full. I was trying to get my car before the heavy rain that I had heard was forecasted this morning on the news, as I was getting ready to go to college that would start soon. I had just gotten out of my last class of my fall semester of my senior year of college. I had thought that I had done fairly well on the last final and would be getting a high B or low A overall in the class. While I would normally had thought about what to do to celebrate that I had finished another semester that was not what I had been…
