I, personally, have never been the best at English, but have always had pleasing grades in the courses that I have taken. I have to work very hard for the grades I have, and although they don't come easily, I seem to pull out an A. I have never been the best at grammar or punctuation, but I overcame that difficulty throughout my English courses with my teachers. I discovered in my English 2 class that I wasn't too good at reading comprehension and figured out that I needed to read sentences more than once to fully understand a sentence completely. I am pretty confident in myself when it comes to argument essays though. I seem to always do well on that type of essay. Before I got into 9th grade I struggled with grammar and punctuation. We did bell work in my English 1 class, and my teacher put tons of grammar review on them. She sat down and practiced with me and explained why things were the way they were. I, now, understand when words should be used and when they shouldn't be. I also wasn't the best with punctuation. Writing papers really helped me overcome that struggle though. As I wrote I knew when sentences should be split up by commas and semicolons by reading …show more content…
I normally have to read the sentences more than once to get a full understanding. I usually comprehend the sentence better the second time I read it, but sometimes it takes a third time. I do better reading to myself rather than reading out loud with a group; the words don't get as tangled together when I read to myself. I also have trouble explaining what I read. This has always been an issue for me, but I'm gradually getting better at it. I expect this course to help me overcome this weakness I have, and I am able to read and comprehend sentences without having to go back and read them over. I think it will help me drastically writing all the essays we

When I started high school my sentences would almost makes sense. During my 9th grade year my sentences were all over the map. Most of the sentences were put together nicely, but the other 25% were ugly. During my paper I wrote in 9th grade my sentences didn’t make any sense. Like in my paper Analysis of the Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst I stated “Now why bother the is dynamic character and Doodle is the static character.”…

This course has improved myself as a writer and has a critical thinker; with the essays that were written I was challenged to ask more questions and see the bigger picture on things and view a subject from all sides. I never wrote an argumentative essay before this course, so this course taught me what it was how to write one and what exactly I was looking for and what I would be able to improve on. I know there is still room for improvement, but taking this course has already made me a better writer from when I started. Writing argumentative essays would help improve many skills as an individual by learning how to approach important issues without taking a side and learning this would also help if a person was trying to prove a point…

My biggest problems when it came to writing was using commas and semicolons, coherence of my papers and responding to a text. I use the word “was” because I found several resources to help me out with the biggest problems I have when it comes to my writing. The best resources I found for these problems are The Little Seagull Handbook, the MEAL plan template and paperrater.com. One of my favorite resources that I used was the Little Seagull Handbook and this resource helped me with my semicolon and comma problems I had been experiencing. For as long as I can remember I have subconsciously been using comas to extend sentences and those sentences became run on sentences.…

Things such as colons, semicolons, and commas. When I look at all of my peer edits and my graded papers the biggest weakness of mine is solely punctuation. I do very well at finding content to get my point across and incorporating a conclusion to keep the reader with a good thought starter. For example, "God made us all different for a reason". Or at times I use humor to bring fun to a lesson such as "popsicles should never be walking around".…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

This track season was the best time of my life, but it went by way too fast. I had no clue what any of the events were, but I caught on very fast because I started training with my cousin, He set the High School record for discus and still has it today. We started to work on throwing shot, and I got very good because we would work on my form for hours and because of that I was the best thrower the whole season. If you look at me compared to other throwers, I look very scrawny. I got 1st in most of my meets, but sometimes we would go against this one kid from Washington Middle and he looked like he was on steroids or something, he had a mustache too.…

I believe that sometimes my mistakes in grammar stay on my papers because while I am revising and editing my paper I have trouble reading the actual words on the paper and instead read the things that my mind says it should read. For example, one of my greatest mistakes is forgetting to write some commas when the writing should have it. The problem is that in my mind I read it as if the comma is there while it is truly not, I believe that this problem extends in part out of the fact that I read a lot of books where the grammar is not the best and I always try to ignore it while I am reading. Additionally, I also need to work on eliminating my run on sentences from my writing.…

Somewhat related to cognition and morality, is a child’s social and emotional development. For example, following social cognitive theory, I started to regulate my own behaviors more frequently in middle childhood, instead of relying on outside punishments and rewards to shape my behavior (Rathus, 2011, p. 220). Nonetheless, my social development was quite poor. The first reason I lagged in social development is that my ADHD caused me to lack social awareness and thus get rejected by my peers, preventing me from learning through socialization. My weight also hindered me, particularly when combined with my social “awkwardness”, which together led to me having very few friends throughout middle childhood.…

The semester is almost over now. I took Composition and rhetoric, obviously, because it is a compulsory course, but further than that I was truly excited to see what it could offer. English has always been my passion and a language I wanted to learn to perfection. I am glad to say that this course did not disappoint; it has been a class that helped me improved my writing abilities, as much as my comprehension skills. Whenever we desire to learn a new language it can be challenging, putting our thoughts and ideas in paper is complicated and even more when you do not do it in your mother tongue.…

I have always had a rough time writing essays in my academic career. The hardest thing for me in writing is structuring essays and making them flow. It wasn’t in till the 9th grade that I had a teacher who showed me how to set up an essay so that it is easier to read. One of the simplest things I struggle with in my writing career was spelling. Starting in elementary I would memorize words for a spelling test instead of actually learning how to spell them.…
