Most likely, that repent would have never existed if that person had thought twice before acting. An experience which made me realize that thinking things through was a good habit to have was with my first pet, a goldfish.
When I was about six or seven years old, my parents had gotten a fish tank from their friends, since they were moving back to India and couldn’t bring a tank on the plane. Inside was a medium-sized goldfish which I decided to name Goldie due to her obvious yellow-orange color and my creativity. Being six years old, my mind was filled with curiosity, mischief, and the amazement that I had an actual animal

I live a really fast paced life and go from one thing to another to another, and I never really find myself with much time to sit down and reflect on the actions I have taken. Sometimes, I just reason out that instead of wasting time thinking about something that already happened, I can go be productive and worry about what is happening right now. However, this isn’t necessarily the best way to look at things. A lot of times, I find myself making the same mistakes over and over again, like working on DIY projects instead of studying for a test or over-committing myself. Maybe, if I sat down and thought about the causes of my problems, I could recognize how to prevent those problems from happening.…

Every second of every day, billions of people make decisions whether it be a small and minor decision to get up early or a major decision such as buying a house. All the decisions a person makes throughout their lifetime are essential to how they think, live, speak, and many other things. People manage to make thousands of decisions a day and most of them are made through the habit of mind of making decisions by applying prior knowledge and experience to current situations. Some kids live and breathe for animals, and I was one of those kids. I had my stuffed animals and my plastic stethoscope, and I wanted to be a vet, like James Herriot. Maybe a small animal vet, maybe a field vet, but a vet. When I turned nine, I came across David Quammen's Song of the Dodo, a book about island biogeography. I read it because of the dodo on the cover.…

This is my first year of high school, and so far I am enjoying this year more than any of my previous years in elementary school at Aviston Elementary. In the past years, I was a stressed out loner who was easily annoyed by everything and could not get long-term projects done without having a melt down at some point. However, in this year that has changed. I have made a few friends who have stayed with me for the entire year, learned to tolerate immature, childish actions, and have not felt completely overwhelmed to this date. This year and previous years both had their moments, but I would not change anything that happened because they both helped make me who I am now.…

About four years ago I was playing club lacrosse for the Villanova Wildcats travel team. I was about thirteen years old when I experienced one of my first significant lessons of failure. At a young age many do not understand the importance of failures and short comings, and how it is essential to learn, grow, and improve. We think success comes easy and without trial which is not realistic. My life changing failure taught me many things: the strength of teamwork, the power of preparation and will, and how to be a better competitor.…

Have you ever done or spoken something and later regretted it? Desperately wanting to take it back you wish you could just erase it from the past? I know I have, and when I reflect on those situations I ask myself, “What would have happened if I had thought about it first”? If you neglect to think before acting it can potentially cause harm to you, or someone else. After several circumstances, I have learned that before acting, you should always consider the consequences of what you’re about to do.…

I have been through so many experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. However, there is one experience in particular that moved me in ways I can hardly put into words. I was near the breaking point. I was using every ounce of energy from within my body to keep everything together, to keep all of my emotions and tears locked up from the rest of the world in fear of exposing my true weakness. It was quite possibly the only (currently) living thing that was capable of shattering my entire life. Even when I felt like I was on top of the world and my entire life was bursting with excitement and enthusiasm, words would always result in my downfall. I never fully understood why such a small, insignificant thing was capable of shutting my entire body down.…

When I was born, per my father, whenever you would talk to me, I wouldn’t show any reaction towards you. The only time I would ever react is when my mother was screaming about something and I would look around the room for the sound. In third grade, I would always get in trouble, perhaps because I didn’t listen when I was supposed to. This changed as soon as I got my hearing aids. I remember the molding of the hearing aid being stuck into ears, which felt like there was cold water in my ears.…
