My ninth or tenth time going on a ski trip with my family and friends was the first time I’d ever experienced a genuine fear for my life. We went to Hunter Mountain in New York on our annual family trip, the only one we take all year. I always looked forward to this time because it meant I got to spend time with my family and a few of my closest friends, however this time things didn't go exactly according to plan.
It was a good first day on the mountain for the most part until things went wrong. On our last run of the day, the terrain started to get very icy and it was becoming dangerous to ride on, in hindsight we probably should have stopped long before we did. I took a nasty fall toward the end of the run that resulted in my getting thrown off the trail and into the trees. In the following years I have dedicated my time to serving my community and becoming a committed member of society. Doing things such as mentoring young people and trying to be an influence, whether it be in athletics, academics or just showing how to be a good and well rounded person. Joining the Youth Court also gave me a sense of devotion to my community and the people within it, by doing justice and, in turn showing the right from the wrong.
This time in my life has molded me as a person in many ways and even gave me the determination to go into the field of search and rescue operation in the hopes that one day I can help someone in the way that Sarah had helped me. I wish to study field medicine and search and rescue strategies in order to make a career in this line of
