When I opened the door, I jumped and screamed. It was Halloween two monsters were at the door. I went running toward my bedroom and went to hide under my blankets. When I look out the window the two monsters were gone. Once I calmed down my brother told me that it’s Halloween and today it’s the day when people dress up as anything they want. I was too young to know. The door kept on knocking more and more people came, they were dressed up as superheroes, princess, monsters. My brother kept giving them candy. While there have been many unique and unusual events in my life the two experiences that come quickly to my mind are my first recollection as a lost child and the time of my great achievement as a sixth grader.

People everywhere decorated their houses and yards, families carved jack-o-lanterns and displayed them outside, and herds of children dashed from house to house trying to stockpile as much candy as they could via trick-or-treating. I remember dressing up in numerous costumes from skeletons and crash test dummies to ninjas and mimes. Even during the ninth grade, the year before my mother took this photograph; I still managed to take part in the holiday. That year was reasonably demanding, with teachers assigning various projects and homework assignments that would occupy most of Halloween night. As a result, I told my mom and sister to go trick-or-treating without me so that I might complete my…

This is my first year of high school, and so far I am enjoying this year more than any of my previous years in elementary school at Aviston Elementary. In the past years, I was a stressed out loner who was easily annoyed by everything and could not get long-term projects done without having a melt down at some point. However, in this year that has changed. I have made a few friends who have stayed with me for the entire year, learned to tolerate immature, childish actions, and have not felt completely overwhelmed to this date. This year and previous years both had their moments, but I would not change anything that happened because they both helped make me who I am now.…

While trick-or-treating, my friends and I decided to explore a dark street, we had never noticed before. As we turned down Larr Road I was filled with dread as if I knew what awaited me. About four years ago I was playing club lacrosse for the Villanova Wildcats travel team. I was about thirteen years old when I experienced one of my first significant lessons of failure. At a young age many do not understand the importance of failures and short comings, and how it is essential to learn, grow, and improve. We think success comes easy and without trial which is not realistic. My life changing failure taught me many things: the strength of teamwork, the power of preparation and will, and how to be a better competitor.…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

Life started getting rough for me around the time that my dad was terminated (11/10/2016). Everything seems to be coming at me all at once. Asides from studying for finals, I was also focused on working two jobs because everything in the house became my responsibility. I have been through so many experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. However, there is one experience in particular that moved me in ways I can hardly put into words. During my senior year of High School, I have dealt with a negative educational experience that has changed my life to this day. In the month of November of 2014, I was waiting for an acceptance letter from Stockton University hopefully to obtain a career in Occupational Therapy. Throughout High School I became an excellent student having a 3.9 GPA, attending various amounts of community service, and was a varsity player for lacrosse and cheerleading. While completing these accomplishments, I have dealt with a major health issue that has impacted my life. Unfortunately, my hopes of getting into the school was shattered.…

In small-town Mississippi, I was always taught that being Conservative was the only way to be and that thinking any other way would go completely against my religion. That being said for the majority of my life I believed I was a Republican until I turned 16 and realized that I agree with very little of what Conservatives do. I now consider myself to be an Independent who leans liberal and the thought of changing my views is pretty unfathomable at this point. However, if I really had to contemplate doing that I would have to consider my few objections to the typical view of Liberals, and that would mostly have to deal with my thoughts on abortion.…

I rode the bus every day in middle school and would interact with a few people who also lived in my neighborhood. They were in no way my friends, but the circumstances had left us stuck on a bus for 30 minutes with a different group of students who normally wouldn't interact. One girl was very religious and we would eventually ease into a logical debate about religion. Every afternoon as we rode from the school into our old neighborhood. I am a very confrontational person, and when I feel as if one side is understated in an argument, and then I will surely be a member of that side.…

I was walking down the old and cracked sidewalk to get to my somewhat new car that I had parked in a parking lot that was on the edge of the campus of the college as the other parking lots that I would normally have parked in had been full. I was trying to get my car before the heavy rain that I had heard was forecasted this morning on the news, as I was getting ready to go to college that would start soon. I had just gotten out of my last class of my fall semester of my senior year of college. I had thought that I had done fairly well on the last final and would be getting a high B or low A overall in the class. While I would normally had thought about what to do to celebrate that I had finished another semester that was not what I had been…

Children are waiting for this day, they lie in wait month by month and plot what costumes they will wear on this day; they figure out who amongst their friends and family will gather the most candy; this day is called Halloween. Halloween is the one day in the whole year where people and children alike dress up in costumes and go door to door in order to accumulate candy, however, one would not think that Halloween was not always a child-friendly holiday but had a shadowy and foggy past. Halloween then and Halloween now are completely two different people. Halloween in the past was first a day that marked a new season, but soon became a time where terror resides in the hearts of the Celts. Halloween today, has taken a dark turn where sadists and commercialization have sucked the fun and the historical truth out of Halloween.…
