Dance is an aspect that accommodates with emotions and displays creativity. This form of art is a major priority in my life. I have been a student at the Dance Depot since the age of five. Over the years, my skills progressed and this activity grew serious and challenging. As a young, inexperienced child, the exhibition symbolized a minor sport in my daily life. However, this current point of view changed dramatically on a summer afternoon in 2009. My mother received an interesting email from the Dance Depot. It was brought to my attention that tryouts were held for the competitive dance team. This news brought excitement and concerns. The dance team involved long practices, multiple responsibilities, and a hard work ethic. Additionally, a few other issues consisted of time management and schoolwork. My parents debated whether or not I would be ready to balance these obligations. They expressed the importance of dedication, explaining that there could be times when giving up social events were required. Not only were my parents supportive, but my encouraging, inspiring dance teacher, Miss Erika, shaped me into the expressive …show more content…
The mail man recently passed by our house, and there was a likely chance the letter hid somewhere in the stack. It included information, positive or negative, depending on my performance level in the auditions. After about 20 minutes of hesitation, I carefully opened the envelope. The first words stood out to me, the ones that significantly changed my life. In big, black, bold letters, it congratulated me for being accepted as a new member into the competitive team. This specific statement caused my jaw to drop and eyes enlarge. My heart pumped with enthusiasm; not believing the information I just read. The family of mine gathered around to see why I suddenly jumped with joy. Likewise, they joined in on the excitement, proud to hear about my accomplishment. Regardless of much exuberance, a thought process deemed

As stated before in our first lecture, dance is a living and fleeting art form. I believe that dance is a living art form because it is a three-dimensional picture to art. What I mean by this is that, art is normally seen on walls or as sculptures, but dance is an amazing opportunity to view art while in movement. If you are anything like me, when I look at a painting of two people or many, I always wonder what it would be like to see them actually dancing, singing, or even laughing. By watching dance, it is my living art form.…

In many ways, individuals often struggle against their fears. The time I experienced this was when I used to ride steers a couple summers ago. It was a hot July day and my dad and I had just finished helping my Rodeo queen sister get ready for carrying flags to start off the rodeo. After when we walked over to the stands to get ready for their riding, I was gearing up to ride one of those beasts they call steers, thinking I was going to get killed.…

“Mia can you go walk A field and the corral?” my supervisor asked over the walkie-talkie as I finished bringing in fifteen excited dogs from group play. By this point I had already walked more than a dozen dogs, fed half the kennel, and taken out over a hundred dogs for one of their daily outings. I was exhausted and now I had to pick up a field full of dog feces.…

They had a local pet store, Aqualand, come out with some of the animals they had in stock. The owner, Mike, came with some of the many exodic animals he had in stock. Among which, he brought many reptiles and invertebrates.…

Connections have always mattered, whether it’d be through social media or through other forms of media. “Connecting enhances life on so many levels, it’s common sense to conclude that one should be as connected as possible all the times. Digital maximalism is clearly a superior way of living” (Powers 36). Powers then continued to state in the next sentence “Except when it isn’t.” Many people can agree with Powers on his argument.…

When I was born, per my father, whenever you would talk to me, I wouldn’t show any reaction towards you. The only time I would ever react is when my mother was screaming about something and I would look around the room for the sound. In third grade, I would always get in trouble, perhaps because I didn’t listen when I was supposed to. This changed as soon as I got my hearing aids. I remember the molding of the hearing aid being stuck into ears, which felt like there was cold water in my ears.…

Somewhat related to cognition and morality, is a child’s social and emotional development. For example, following social cognitive theory, I started to regulate my own behaviors more frequently in middle childhood, instead of relying on outside punishments and rewards to shape my behavior (Rathus, 2011, p. 220). Nonetheless, my social development was quite poor. The first reason I lagged in social development is that my ADHD caused me to lack social awareness and thus get rejected by my peers, preventing me from learning through socialization. My weight also hindered me, particularly when combined with my social “awkwardness”, which together led to me having very few friends throughout middle childhood.…

The first time I had a phone I was in elementary school, and had it for about 2 years. Then as life moved on, and events took place, I was not allowed to have one, and did not have one for almost two years. When I was in fourth or fifth grade I was allowed to have another one and kept it until the sixth grade. My dog had torn it apart, and because of financial reasons, there was only one phone in the house, between three people, and it was a old slide up phone. Not a touch screen…

All my life I have been told to do better and to be better. I have strived for excellence many times throughout my life. More often than not, I strived for this excellence in my education. Sadly, I have been told multiple times on many accounts by my educators that I am not good enough or that I cannot reach a goal that I strive for whole-heartedly. Being considered an AIG (Academically Gifted) student was a title that I did not obtain.…

If I personally got asked the question about where I consider my parents to be in the spectrum of hyper, my first initial thought would be to put them pretty high on the spectrum. The reasoning for this initial response is because I always remember ever since I was little my parents pushing me academically and being there for me. I think they started to become more hyper after I got lost in South Korea and my parents ended up having to contact the police to find me. I’m sure that must have been a terrifying moment for my parents as losing a child is one of the worst things that could happen to a parent. I can relate to the video we watched, as when the mother was considering putting a microchip inside her daughter to track her, to a regular…

At three years old, I received an atlas for my birthday. Immediately, it engrossed me. I remember looking at the pages, mesmerized by pictures of places, animals, foods, and people so different from anything I had ever seen. Thinking of myself an explorer, I searched for the tallest mountains, the biggest desserts and imagined living there, much like in the Jungle Book. As I got older, my interest in maps and geography grew.…

It was not until I turned the age of ten that all that changed. The family that was once extremely close was no longer anymore. The reason for such debacle was because of the passing of my late mother.…
