I was not a fighter and I never wanted bad blood with anyone. I found that if I am kind to everyone that I became the sheep in front of the wolf. These realizations were made a little late. The lesson learned was that you have a choice, just because you decide to fight doesn’t mean you can’t decide to run.
I move schools all the time and had only been at Los Colinas for two years, so they had no respect for me. I had a group of four friends at the time Diego, Kelson, Chris, and Joe. Joe was newer than I was but I understood what he was going through so I befriended him and he turned out to

Ever since life first roamed the Earth, any living beings with a working mind had made decisions. Choices, if you will, that are made for one’s own benefit. The fact of the matter is that it is purely instinct to place oneself before others. Instinct is the driving force; the core motivation to a being’s actions. Through a plethora of circumstances, instinct can be perceived as either good or evil; it has easily shaped itself into words as powerful as greed or intelligence.…

The Detriment of Survival Instincts in Surviving Society Heavy breathing and a rapid heart rate, ready to run or, perhaps, attack, like a wild animal. Only, humans don’t need to be raised in the wilderness to act in such a manner. After all, when society places pressure on its population, the more prevalent survival-like traits become, which show up in the form of fear, greed and violence. When people are placed in difficult situations they retreat and stop thinking rationally, letting their instincts take over. An adrenaline rush washes over them and they live in a constant agitated state, which clouds their reasoning and morals.…

The exception to this is that if I think I have a chance to fight and protect both of us then I would take it. Another example would be if i know I have an exam in two days and I haven’t started to study yet, but at the same time all of my group friends want to get together for a wing night together. I would chose my friends over studying because I still have a day to study and I would just risk that being enough to let me pass my exam. Although if the wing night was the night before my exam I would chose to study and just try to get my friends to postpone the wing…

This is my first year of high school, and so far I am enjoying this year more than any of my previous years in elementary school at Aviston Elementary. In the past years, I was a stressed out loner who was easily annoyed by everything and could not get long-term projects done without having a melt down at some point. However, in this year that has changed. I have made a few friends who have stayed with me for the entire year, learned to tolerate immature, childish actions, and have not felt completely overwhelmed to this date. This year and previous years both had their moments, but I would not change anything that happened because they both helped make me who I am now.…

About four years ago I was playing club lacrosse for the Villanova Wildcats travel team. I was about thirteen years old when I experienced one of my first significant lessons of failure. At a young age many do not understand the importance of failures and short comings, and how it is essential to learn, grow, and improve. We think success comes easy and without trial which is not realistic. My life changing failure taught me many things: the strength of teamwork, the power of preparation and will, and how to be a better competitor.…

When the opportunity came to find community service hours for my Human Growth and Development class, I knew I wanted to help out somebody who works hard to provide me safety. I talked to my dad after finding out I needed hours and he advised me to talk to the sheriff. The sheriff told me that he would gladly appreciate my help and he decided on a task for me: washing patrol cars. I thought that washing cars seemed like an easy enough task. The day before my service my dad informed me that I needed to bring our car washing supplies from home with me to the sheriff’s office the next day.…

I never thought I could feel so much happiness than when I knew I was impacting a child life for the better. I would rush home from school, change into my work uniform, and soak up as much sun as I possibly could knowing I wouldn’t see or feel its warmth for the rest of the day. My bleak attitude during depressing winter days completely revolved once I stepped into my classroom; every day thirteen chubby two-year old would run to me exclaiming how they missed me and how their scribbled drawings were just for me. Their parents saw my commitment and regularly told me stories about how their little one now knew the words “spectacular” and “illuminating” or they used the bathroom all by themselves singing the potty song I had made up the day before.…
