Life started getting rough for me around the time that my dad was terminated (11/10/2016). Everything seems to be coming at me all at once. Asides from studying for finals, I was also focused on working two jobs because everything in the house became my responsibility. Mortgage became my responsibility, bills became mine, car loans became mine, expenses in the house became mine as well. I became the support system for my family, both emotionally and financially. Sometimes, I just emotionally break down with so much on my shoulder: work, school, and going on job hunts for my immigrant parents whom does not have diplomas of any sort nor can they speak a word in English. I ended up getting my parents a few job interviews; that is the beauty …show more content…
Boy was I wrong! My father fell and had a head injury. They sent him to a nearby hospital for a CT Scan and it came out abnormal. That was when I got a call from them, telling me that my father needs to be transferred to Urgent Care. I stayed with him that night and so many thoughts ran through my head as I screamed and shouted in the waiting room. I did not care about the cost at the time, so I lied... I lied. I told my dad that Medicaid is going to cover everything. I thought if he is in need of critical care, I would take a gap year- I actually thought of taking a gap year knowing how much I love school- and work full time at Zions Bank for commission and pay since I know a few tellers there. I thought to myself that I can work full time for an entire year and get his medical costs covered and go back to school. Everyday while hospitalized I reassured him that medicaid is going to cover everything, so he can feel free to make any decisions that he needs to, to save his life. He ended up undergoing neurosurgery. Good news is that he can walk, talk, and eat as well as he did before. Bad news is that I got ahold of the medical bill and let's just say it is enough to cover two years of medical school for me. I am working to pay it off

High school is a lot like an epic novel. We are each the hero of our story, and during that story we face challenges that make us consider who we want to be. I have worked very hard to write a 4 year journey into a two page essay. Through the journey of high school my interests, activities, work, personal circumstances, reasons for attending college, and future aspirations have been the core elements to my personal novel. I hope that through the Hagan scholarship I will be able to add the chapters about college without the never ending battle against student loans.…

Seeing my world passing by through that smudged glass, I would daydream what I could do with it.…
