Maxfield, I thought it would be a good idea to write you a letter rather than yell or cry over FaceTime. I know that’s all I’ve been doing and I want to make a difference in how I speak to you for once. I’m going to tell you everything I can’t say in person in this letter so that at least you can read it and not be stressed that I’m crying or getting mad at you.…

It was 9PM and had a trip that felt as though we were jumping states. Us captains stay after, while the rest of the team scurried to the bus. Our coach looks at us with grin, and kind of disappointed. I asked coach why he seemed down, and he told us “ I do not enjoy coming to this ball field, and I know you guys don’t as well. Thank you for being strong leaders, and putting all the negativity behind.…

As a military child, I left the United States with my family at the age of five and spent eight years living overseas at duty stations in Japan, Germany, and Italy. We traveled extensively during vacations to over 20 different countries. As a result, I claim proficiency in ordering french fries and apple juice in several different languages. Although moving has brought me some misfortune, and many people would say that living overseas qualifies as adversity, I never felt it was such.…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

On a snowy Christmas day at Sunrise Peak, there is a whiteout at the acme; snow is falling heavily, visibility is low, and the wind is unforgiving as it clashes against my bare face. I slowly start my descent down the mountain. As I begin to cut back and forth in a comfortable manner on my board I slip up. I try to turn to follow the slopes path, but I turned too sharply. The front of my board digs into the snow abruptly and causes me to plunge forward.…

If only I hadn’t had that accident I would not be where I am today. Every day I am thankful and grateful for the accident that I was involved in while in Iraq. I always said while joking but serious at the same time, that God if I was not in the military I will give myself to you completely in ministry. A few months while deployed to Iraq my vehicle was hit with an I.E.D. and the armor truck rolled down a hill on top of me and shattered my right knee and many other injuries. I believe God didn’t waste any time moving me into the direction of my purpose.…
