During our lives we will no doubt encounter a vast majority of people that are nothing like us. These people might be different physically, emotionally, or spiritually. We, as a society, are expected to look past these differences and work together in harmony. Sometimes people are able to work together smoothly, no matter how different they may be. Sometimes, however, it can be quite difficult. Sometimes it can be extremely enduring to be around, let alone accomplish a goal, with someone who is at the opposite end of the spectrum from where you reside. Back when I was a young lad I used to be a part of a soccer team. The position I was deployed to was center-back. Basically I was acting as the last defender. During my first couple of years,

Journalist Linda Ellerbee, once stated, "People are pretty much alike. It 's only that our differences are more susceptible to definition than our similarities. If you are different, you’ll likely be treated as a stranger, someone who doesn’t fit in. Humans are social being, we require human interaction from time to time. One thing I have learned in life is that not everyone will be similar to me. Other people will most likely have different values, experiences, and perspectives on life. When I was much younger, I dreaded meeting new people who I shared nothing in common. I feared we would not get along and this would lead to problems. However, my exposure to disparate people in sports, school, and work has helped me broaden my horizons and be better prepared to relate to others in the future.…

As a military child, I left the United States with my family at the age of five and spent eight years living overseas at duty stations in Japan, Germany, and Italy. We traveled extensively during vacations to over 20 different countries. As a result, I claim proficiency in ordering french fries and apple juice in several different languages. Although moving has brought me some misfortune, and many people would say that living overseas qualifies as adversity, I never felt it was such.…

The past two weeks I have worked at northshore maternity and national womens community midwives. During my week at northshore it was incredibly busy and understaffed. I also remember thinking at times, where has the midwifery gone? We were so busy rushing around trying to provide safe and quality care to the women, but that fact is I feel we were too busy, with too larger case loads to provide true midwifery care. I cared for many day 1-2 sections, women with large blood losses requiring blood transfusions, a secondary PP and there was a woman with confirmed H1N1 on the ward who was unstable – but HDU wouldn’t allow her to be transferred around, and many other complex situations that really challenged my competence, knowledge and practice reasoning.…

I have been through so many experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. However, there is one experience in particular that moved me in ways I can hardly put into words. My freshman year of high school, I was given the opportunity to join the Klondike FFA Milk Quality Career Development Event team. Studying and competing in this event led me to develop a fighting hunger for winning. Halfway through my first year, I realized that I did not like to lose.…

Throughout the course of my life, I have had multiple “ups and downs”, like a roller coaster, which steadily defined who I am today. As a young child, I was shielded from most of the public world because my parents enrolled me into a private school. My continuous naivety throughout my elementary years led me to a rude awakening when I was first introduced into middle school. Although this defined me as a maturing person, like a roller coaster car moving upwards at a snail’s pace, what truly changed my ambitions and perspective on school, and brought me to my highest point, was when my father came into my life again.…

I have had numerous angry spouts with my mother, over countless years. It has gotten to the point that it no longer feels like she’s close to me. Since I do care about my mom I decided to do my paper on her. Since my mom has a short temper it was rather difficult to prepare my approach because if I fail it will be a multi hour argument that accomplishes nothing but makes both parties very angry at each other. After many fails and many arguments, I found that it went well all the way up to when I get to the part where I make a request or requests.…

If someone is different than you whether they have came from a different background or look different than you, you tend to be hesitant towards them. Why is that? Does that reaction reflect on how we were raised or on the nature of human beings? Without acceptance there is a lack of peace, understanding, and mistrust, if you look at the world today there is a great lack in all these categories. The authors Ronald J. Allen, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Diane Glancy point out how acceptance is not an automatic response to others in the “American Flag Stands For Tolerance””, “The Wife’s Story””, and “Without Title.””.…

Im glad im in a new school, although school could have waited a bit longer and give us a month more of summer, yet then the teachers would have to rush everything to teach us. I don’t remember it that well, but my parents divorced when I was around three years old. I vaguely remember my father getting on a plane at the airport to go back to Guam and my mom, brother, and I waving good-bye. I have heard stories about why they split, saying that it had nothing to do with my brother or I, just differences between the two. As I grew older, I would still get presents in the mail on my birthday, Christmas, and even Halloween. He would send mangos from Guam, pictures of him fishing and even working (as a firefighter).…
