It only makes sense that the brain, being like any muscle in the human body, would work identically to say, a bicep; the more you condition it, the more it will thrive, and the more it will expand.…

“Peter, can you explain what this is?” hissed Mrs. Dickerson, handing me my report card. Butterflies swarmed in my stomach as she sat down in front of me, her intimidating dark, red lips and leering eyes pierced through my soul. The letter “D” next to the words “Math 7,” imprinted onto the lifeless piece of paper. There was a momentary pause as I looked down at the ground, searching my scattered mind for an adequate answer. Instead of giving an answer, however, my hands started to move towards my face, sobbing in misery.…

For a while, I wasn’t able to see. I spent portions of my life feeling extremely tired and fatigued. In the back of my mind, I had assumed that someone would make the effort to help me, but no one ever did. Was it due to the fact that no one cared or was there a biological process in the human brain that causes people to act this way? Was it due to a person’s natural biology or was it the environment?…

As I confidently walked into the DMV, I firmly handed over my paperwork to the employee. I announced, “I have a ten o’clock appointment for Olivia Sestito.” The short time in which I waited for my name to be called, my body overturned with a strong nervous feeling. A few prolonged minutes later, I hopped back into my car and pulled up to the side of the building to attempt my second driving test. The instructor walked over to my side and signaled me to roll my window down after she examined my car.…

It was also during this time of crucial development I decided to never put more effort than necessary into anything. This worked well for me. I managed to do everything with minimal effort and still achieve the grades my sisters tried to study hours for. I had friends equally as smart as me using their capabilities to ace every subject while I was content with cruising along.…
