If someone found out about the violent video game the shooters were influenced by, we could have possibly stopped the attack. In a study, researchers found out that “real-life violent video game play was positively related to aggressive behavior and delinquency… and exposure to a graphically violent video game increased aggressive thoughts and behavior” (CITE). Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were known for playing the video game doom. In doom, you are known for being the first person shooter, basically becoming the character. Eric Harris even created his own version of doom, that was very similar to their actual attack. Within his version of doom, “there are two shooters, each with extra weapons and unlimited ammunition, and the other people

People tried to blame the shooting on the video games Dylan and Eric used to play. The two were very into a game by the name of ‘Doom.’ Many tried to so that doom was the cause, but there is no way it can be, in doom you aren’t killing other humans, you are killing aliens and things not even on our planet! If the two can’t tell the difference between the real world and the virtual world, that in itself is a much bigger problem than the game. Once again future shootings would lead to more people protesting shooting or violent…

In many ways, individuals often struggle against their fears. The time I experienced this was when I used to ride steers a couple summers ago. It was a hot July day and my dad and I had just finished helping my Rodeo queen sister get ready for carrying flags to start off the rodeo. After when we walked over to the stands to get ready for their riding, I was gearing up to ride one of those beasts they call steers, thinking I was going to get killed.…

Technology has developed so much over the years that we have relied on it so much. Technology is used in pretty much everything we use nowadays. Living in a neighborhood was the greatest advantage, but having kids the same age as I was even better. There was never a time we weren't outside: rain, shine, snow, miserably cold, or even scorchingly hot. There was 4 of us: 3 girls and 1 guy, all around the same age.…

“Mia can you go walk A field and the corral?” my supervisor asked over the walkie-talkie as I finished bringing in fifteen excited dogs from group play. By this point I had already walked more than a dozen dogs, fed half the kennel, and taken out over a hundred dogs for one of their daily outings. I was exhausted and now I had to pick up a field full of dog feces.…

During finals week of fall 2014, my grandmother was starting to cook her oatmeal in the kitchen for breakfast. I was upstairs in my room packing when I heard two loud bangs. I was startled and immediately exited my room as did my brother and together we rushed down the stairs into the kitchen. My grandmother had collapsed. She had busted her nose and hit her head on the cabinets behind her rendering herself unconscious.…

The trips were unplanned, as I have traveled to 13 different countries in four continents of the world. At least that was something to brag about after returning home from six years of military service. I would talk about these moments in a heartbeat when topics related to travel surface in conversations. Remembering and reliving those moments brings great fulfillment. Usually, there's a moment in life where I experience home in places I've visited.…

Slowly as I wake up I recognize the way that I have changed into something I have adored so dearly. Maybe I like it better this way, with no feeling of intrusion only leaving with a sense unsure of my belongings. The hardness of my cover and the intricacy of my content are not intended for frail fingertips and weak personalities. I feel like have been opened here and there. My spine stroked by unstable hands, held with a broken center, my pages marginally skimmed through, just to be put down mid-sentence.…

There was not a single piece of leather furniture that lacked an intricate map I had scratched into it with my grubby four-year-old fingernails. Every wall and flat surface had Sharpie murals of vast cotton candy skies and family trees made of dogs as soon as I discovered how to hold a pen. My parents never tried to stifle my creativity. They urged me to pursue artistry and offered every tool conceivable to develop my creative skills. Growing up hearing my father jam out on guitar and watching my mother lose herself painting silk (among the many other hobbies they both tend to), my inspiration never ran dry.…

Sometimes the best opportunities come from the most challenging situations. When I was in sixth grade I stress fractured my hip. Of course, this was a real disappointment just like it always is when any young, athletic kid hurts him or herself. However the timing of it couldn’t have been worse. This happened right at the beginning of my ski racing season, right when all my friends and I were anticipating how fun the upcoming season would be, and whether we would make it to Championships or not.…

When it comes to our children we always want the best for them. That means the safest toys, the safest schools, the safest daycares. All these things come in the form or the safest physical things and places in the lives of our children, but what about the one thing many people don’t really take into account? What about our children and our vehicles. This has been a never ending fight.…

I vividly remember the first day of sixth grade; I looked at my schedule just “knowing” I would switch out of the “Odyssey of the Mind” class, especially since I had never even heard of it before. I had no idea that exactly two years later I would be the one standing in the middle of the Iowa University stadium, performing in front of hundreds of other passionate competitors from over a hundred countries around the world. I have always been good at painting, drawing, and coming up with witty answers to teacher's questions. However, only a few other students understood what I was saying. I was never able to put my creative skills to good use, besides the rare once-a-quarter projects we would have.…

The first time I had a phone I was in elementary school, and had it for about 2 years. Then as life moved on, and events took place, I was not allowed to have one, and did not have one for almost two years. When I was in fourth or fifth grade I was allowed to have another one and kept it until the sixth grade. My dog had torn it apart, and because of financial reasons, there was only one phone in the house, between three people, and it was a old slide up phone. Not a touch screen…

Events have the capability to shape a person as a whole, depending on the level of the importance or the impacts after the event. Being this age, it is such a strange yet not the best time in life, but it is also the transition from childhood to adulthood. The event I endured shaped me as a person, it caused so much mental and emotional destruction. But, it also was a transition for the good.…

We all know this subject is very emotional and hard to talk about but putting video games in with the mix as a reason why this all happened is far from the case. Minors the play violent video games do not cause young citizens to execute massive shootings. SInce 1982 - 2015 71 mass shootings have happened, only 11 young kids under the age of 18 were involved in those. Katherine Newman, a PhD wrote "Millions of young people play video games full of fistfights, blazing guns, and body slams...yet only a minuscule fraction of the consumers become violent." US Secret Service and US Department of Education investigated 37 cases between 1974 and 2000 that was involved with school violence.…
