One particular circumstance that sparked the idea of attending college made me open my eyes at a young age to realize a higher education is important to succeed in the world. It started when I was talking with my parents about their choices and thoughts in high school, specifically, my mother. She was a straight A student throughout high school and when senior year came around, she applied to many colleges. One of the few was Cal State Fullerton.…

In my childhood, I went to Nerd Camp at Northwestern during the summer. While I was there, I fell in love with Northwestern’s environment, especially the city of Evanston. I knew that I wanted to apply there in the future. Of course, a few three-week long stays at Northwestern wasn’t enough for me to learn what being an undergraduate student there is like, but during my transition from Nerd Camp Student to High School Student, and now to College Student, I’ve also realized the academic benefits Northwestern offers.…

To me the transition from childhood to adulthood occurred when I got my license and my first car. I got my license early in the year of 2015, I passed the test with ease getting a perfect score despite being nervous during the maneuverability course. I took my awkward photo and went out the door with the freedom to drive without any adult. Despite not showing any signs of excitement on the outside, on the inside I was geeked to be the one controlling where i can go, what music to listen, and how loud I wanted the music it to be. The only downfall to getting my license was that i was to be what my dad called a “Gopher”.…

One might take for granted, the safety of suburbia. I was led to believe by my parents that in "a neighborhood like this," I would be perfectly safe. In the 7th grade, I had to take the bus that dropped me off quite a ways away from my house, meaning that I had to walk quite the distance to my house. It wasn't a major problem, just a minor inconvenience at best. The main reason I took this specific route was to save some minutes sleeping in the early mornings, but I digress.…

I cannot recall one singular day of my seventeen years of life in which my family has not had to worry about finances. We have never lived in a house, rather we have had to drift from apartment to apartment, never planting any roots. The longest period I have ever lived in one location was five years, which means not even one-third of my life has been spent in a consistent home. Regardless of not knowing if I would have a place to sleep every night, I still tried my very best at school. I always saw education as a sort of reprieve from daily life, because even though we might not have enough money for food at home, learning was always free.…
