Personal Narrative Analysis: The Varsity Girls Soccer Team

“Alright Linds, just remember-- since you’re the captain, it’s your job to be in charge of ordering warm ups,” my coach warned me.That one little sentence made me cringe. I was now in charge of selecting the warmups, gaining consensus, collecting money, and purchasing them for the Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team.

A couple of days after I was delegated to be in charge of warm-up duty, I realized I should just accept the responsibility and stop putting it off any longer. After researching online for hours for the best looking jackets and deals, and calling multiple companies, I found what seemed to be a good quality jacket for a good price.

The next day, I showed the team a picture of the jacket with the price. Everyone seemed to like both. Just to make sure, I asked if everyone wanted to go through with it, and each player obliged. I told the girls that I would like the money given to me by our first game, which was about a week away.

There were a few stragglers, so I asked if they could get the money to me as soon as possible. Then I heard my name. “Hey Lindsey? Yeah, um, I’m not getting a jacket,” a voice softly called. At that moment I knew who it was. She was a senior, just like me. I knew to some extent that she had a rough upbringing, but didn’t really know. Different thoughts raced through my head of what to say, but all I could come up with was, “And you couldn’t have told me that a week ago? My parents already paid for twenty-two
