Decent Essays
Anacortes is a small town, on Fidalgo Island, in the northwest corner of Washington. This town is where I have lived my entire life. Anacortes consists of approximately 16,000 residents and Anacortes High School currently has 790 students enrolled. Growing up, events put on by the high school such as plays concerts athletics and parades were my favorite thing. Today I am a three sport athlete, with varsity letters in tennis, basketball and football. I have participated in high school politics, I was the sophomore class Vice President. I am a member of concert choir, who performs regularly for the community. I am also in the Drama three class in my high school, in which we write and create our own play to perform for the community

The Crevasse “Adversity is the source of our deepest growth and greatest blessings; embrace it, dare to seek It,” that was a quote from Aron Ralston, who fell down a crevasse and his arm was wedged under a rock, which inspired the movie “127 Hours.” One day I was going to the creek with my friends, Matthew and Kendal, to hang out. We had this amazing spot that had a bridge that we made and everything. We were bringing further supplies to add on to the spot and make it look more visually appealing. When we arrived at the park we brought all of the supplies down under a bridge.…

As I sat in the taxi on the day I arrived in Seville, I was admiring the scenery; the bushes were well groomed, the buildings came in all shapes and sizes, and on every corner I spotted a Spaniard walking their dogs. The tantalizing aroma of oranges hit me as I exited the taxi and walked towards my final destination, which would be my home for the next three months. Andalucía is the southern coast of Spain that is home to many cities such as Seville, Córdoba, Granada, Málaga, Cádiz and Ronda, just to name a handful. Cataluña and the Levante region is along the east coast of Spain and home to Barcelona, Valencia, Murica, Girona, Lleida and Tarrangona.…

Caroline McCain sat in the back row of desks in the classroom, in which was filled with anxious seniors waiting for the year to get started so it would be over. Their English Language Arts teacher handed out the assignments they were to complete through the year. Each student received an envelope, inside it held details on a person who was serving the country. Whether they were across the sea, or serving right here in the states. " Alright class, this assignment is going to account for a third of your grade."…

I have also made great friendships with peers outside of my usual classrooms which has helped shape me into a well rounded person. With National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, we have bettered our community through projects such as a can food drive and buying Christmas gifts for children in need. National Honor Society has also helped me gain connections with our local Special Olympics where I volunteered this past year and plan to continue volunteering. The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
