Personal Narrative: An Interview With Peter Santana

Decent Essays
On May 16, 2017 I interviewed Peter Santana about what it means to be American to him. He is my cousin's best friend, and is currently 31 years of age. He lives in Buena Park, California and is manager of the Providence Building in Orange, California. He does not like playing, or watching sports, he would rather go out and take a hike or drive around town in his 2017 Nissan Altima.

According to Peter Santana, being a Hispanic minority in America feels neutral for him as an individual, and their is no emotional feeling towards it at all. Mr. Santana, really focuses on the equality of each individual whether you're rich or poor, he believes that we should all be at the same level of equality. As a Mexican American, Peter realizes the potential

During the 1940s-1980s, and even stretching into the current day, Latino Americans grew up with the same struggles as any other “colored” ethnic group. Fortunately, people such as John J. Valadez are trying to unveil the true meaning behind what it means to be a Latino American. John J. Valadez is an award winning filmmaker and director for a television series known as “Latino Americans”. On September 15, I went and took part in el Grito ceremony held at the Miller Outdoor Theater to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day. I did not know what was el Grito, so I went to that event with an open mind. The show came after a long speech in both Spanish and English about the Mexican community in Houston and the impact of Harvey on the community. I really enjoy the sense of community that I experienced during that event. People came as a family or with a group of friends.…

For my UConn Alumni Feature, I had the responsibility of interviewing a young man by the name of Justin Paluch, an assistant basketball coach for Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. I originally chose Justin due to his current profession and after a 40-minute phone call that consisted of exchanging information and receiving advice, I am perfectly satisfied with the decision that I made. I thought it would be best to conduct my interview with starting from the beginning of his career up until where he is in his life today. The biggest thing that we had in common was the obvious: the fact that we both have attended the University of Connecticut. We talked about why he chose UConn and whether or not he felt that the Sport Management program did him justice.…
