Personal Narrative: An Interview With My Mother Brenda Lee Guadalupe

Improved Essays
I decided to interview my mother Brenda Lee Guadalupe. I asked her, what’s the name of the hurricane and she responded, “Hurricane Hugo”. Hurricane Hugo was a powerful hurricane that hit St. Croix. According to my mom, it made landfall in the afternoon on September 17, 1989. I then asked her how old was she back then? She replied by saying that she was 15 years old when that happened. She continues, “There were very strong winds and rain. No one could go outside because the trees were in the air. It was very dangerous.” Shocked by her response, I continued and asked her, how did she feel? My Mom said, “I was very scared because it was my first very dangerous hurricane experience.” She later explained that her family stayed with their cousins

Holding her cloak more tightly about her midsection in a vain effort to stave off the cold, she peered with bitter amusement at its pattern. A relic now, of days gone and forgotten by most. While tracing one of the red clouds with the tip of her finger, she was unable to quiet the surfacing resentment.
