Personal Narrative: An Interview With Me

On Thursday, May 26, I was given the opportunity to ride along with Cory Mitchell, a Vice President in the Mahomet regional branch. This ride along gave me the opportunity to interview Cory throughout the day on his job, and to gain experience in a sales role prior to beginning the action selling course.
The morning began early at 7am when I met Cory at the Farm Credit Illinois parking lot to meet him. We traveled to Champaign to attend a Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee Meeting on and upcoming event “Come Wine with Us.” I appreciated the opportunity to sit in on the meeting with Cory and meet many of the individuals that make up the agribusiness committee. After a quick meeting, we were back on the road by 8:15

The family had been a longtime member of Farm Credit, and Cory wanted to visit with them to see how the year was going and if there was anything that Farm Credit Illinois could do to help their operation. I know that I really enjoyed the conversation that was had while we all enjoyed a delicious meal. The family was your picture setting type of family - the kind that always has a smile on their face, hardworking day in and day out, willing to give the shirt off their back for their neighbor. That was very easy for me to pick up on, and I really appreciated those qualities.
When we got back to the office, Cory invited me into his office to show me where the information we had collected would go. He pulled up a spreadsheet from his files and explained how the information would fit in. We entered in the first few items together. Cory would continue entering in all the items until the document was complete. At that point, he would submit that information to CSD for their review.
To say that I enjoyed my day with Cory would be an understatement. There was something about being on the farmer’s property and working together for their success that really appealed to me. I am not sure if it is an area that I could see myself working in one day, but I definitely hope to job shadow and ride along with another loan officer before my time is up here at Farm Credit

A Taste of Domesticity in Stokes State Forest Throughout my four years of high school, I had never had a friend come back from a post-prom weekend in Wildwood and describe to me what sounded like a “good time.” The stories they told always had the same synopsis that centered around drunken fun and even drunker stupidity. Hordes of juniors and seniors slept in small dirty motel rooms. They spent way too much money on alcohol, and they often got swindled into paying hundreds of dollars to stay in an otherwise dirt cheap motel because no decent place would allow teenagers to party like they did. They sat in their hotel rooms and drank the beautiful New Jersey beach days away, waiting for the sun to set so they could continue their drunken…

Road Trip Nation Reflection Our Road Trip Nation project consisted of interviews with Larandust Coleman, Senior Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football at the University of Mississippi, and Dr. Rebecca Lowe, Clinical Assistant Professor and Co-director of Speech and Hearing Clinic. Both interviews consisted of a similar set of questions, varying only slightly based on their occupation and field. Throughout the Road Trip Nation interview process, in addition to reviewing the interviews in their entirety, I was not only able to gain key insights from someone in the working world, but also observe certain favorable career aspects, and react to the overall information and advice they shared with us. Over the course of our interviewing process there were numerous beneficial lessons to be learned from both interactions.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
