On a sweaty, sticky night in the Bird's Nest, Bolt was out of the blocks quicker and opened up an unassailable lead over the first 100m before coming away down the straight and jabbing his thumbs at his chest as he crossed the line. His 19.55 seconds was the fastest in the world this year, his speed and peerless championship class too good for American Gatlin, whose 19.74 was well outside his season's best. Jamaican Bolt, who will also compete in the 4x100m relay, said: "It means a lot to me. "I'm happy to be a 10-time World Championships gold medallist, especially when people have been saying I would lose.…
Two AWESOME workouts with Sharon Stewart today! The last ten months have truly changed my life. She has pushed me further than I ever thought possible. I've gone from thinking "too" skinny looked good, to wanting to be fit and healthy. I've gone from thinking I can get away with using light weights to hearing her "yell" at me in my mind, or not getting low enough for a squat.…
The opinion piece, “The Athlete as Agent of Change”by Lonnie Bunch and David Skorton from the Washington Post discusses the changes athletes bring that challenge convention because of their fame. I believe that athletes should use their fame to promote a political agenda because as American citizens, we have rights. The freedom to express ourselves and freedom of speech was clearly stated in the Constitution. When, in paragraph one, it says, “An athlete silently protests during the national anthem. People respond with angry taunts of ‘traitor,’ ‘you’re a disgrace,’ and ‘leave our country!’”, the people were not being very kind.…
People coming from a different planet would think every day things we do in life are weird. What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…
The term passionate refers to any powerful or compelling feeling as to love or hate. Many Americans become passionate with one another, food, and also hobbies. I for one became passionate with volleyball. In fact, it is one of the top dangerous sports. I managed to make it through numerous of years with a few sprained and jammed fingers which were surprising.…
It would bring me great joy if I were hired as the Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside! Reading through the duties and responsibilities, I believe that I would excel in this position. Looking to expand my career in college athletics, this position would provide the best opportunity for expansion. While compliance is currently my primary responsibility, the requirements of working at the NCAA Division II level have afforded opportunities to gain invaluable experience in other areas. As part of my duties, I have managed $1.3 - $2.0 million in athletic aid.…
Basketball To go to the tournament, I wake up early and eat breakfast. At the tournament on the court, I arrive. To get ready to play, we warm up.…
When I arrived at my enormous new high school for cheerleading auditions, I got lost. It was June, and since classes had just ended, crowds of kids filled the hallways, and I got bumped around like I did not exist. Thankfully, a cheerleader saw me and figured that I had come there for tryouts since I wore shorts, cheer shoes and a big bow in my hair. She took me to the gym where at least sixty girls had shown up to compete. The first thing I saw was cheerleaders doing high level tumbling with no fear.…
My hands shook as I put down my pencil, staring at the clock with fear burning in my mind like a hot iron. “I can’t do this,” I whispered to Amanda, who was sitting next to me, finishing a worksheet. “How am I ever going to wait twelve more minutes?” Amanda turned to me, and I could tell she was nervous as well, although not to the degree that I was. “You’re going to be fine,” she said.…
Basketball became my favorite sport when my daddy first took me over my uncle house and watching my cousins play basketball against each other. At the age of 10 my dad bought me my first basketball goal, then my friends start coming over and play with me. I love basketball so much I started playing them for money. Playing for the school was my best time ever. Elementary to middle school I started point guard and shot my first game winning shot in the eighth grade.…
It was a scorching summer afternoon around three o’ clock PM at J.D Redd Park. I was anxiously waiting in third base for the batter to approach the plate and smack the yarn covered ball just enough for me to make it to the home plate. As the sun hits my face I see the pitcher retract his right arm getting ready to throw it. As I see the ball leave the pitcher’s hand, I breathed in the humid air, making preparations to sprint as fast as I could and make it to the home plate. Before I could even gather my thoughts the ball departed from the pitcher’s hand and into the bat of one of the members of my team.…
An Athlete’s Worst Nightmare Imagine you are going along playing the sport you love, when all of a sudden you hear a pop, your knee gives out, and you are on the ground in pain. This happened to me not once, but twice. After going to the doctor both times, they figured out I tore my ACL.…
My involvement in Basketball and Track has really taught me that if I work hard and strive to do my best, the only outcome is becoming better. I have learned that hard work does and can pay off. During summer of my eighth grade year I was on a summer basketball league, I figured this was the only playing time I would get because the following year I would start as a freshmen. I work hard everyday trying to improve my skills and learning new thing that could help benefit my playing. The following year my coach started noticing how hard I have been working at practice and gave me a few compliments regarding, “nice work today” and“looks like you have been working hard and improving.”…
My love for basketball started from my father taking me to see the Denver Nuggets. Music has always been a big part of my life. I have been writing music since 6th grade, It has always been like an escape for me. I can listen to literally anything and can enjoy it, my brother was the main person that got me into music, he would show me all the latest albums and would even show me oldies and classics such as Wu-Tang clan and The Isley-Brothers. During the end of my ninth grade year, my brother was awaiting sentencing for intent to sell drugs, This was a wake-up call , Not only for him but for me as well .…
The temperature was 83 degrees outside and the humidity was quite high. I just finished swim practice, and I was exhausted from training in the pool. I wanted nothing more than to go home and rest. But, unfortunately, my calendar reminded me that I had eight miles to run. So I proceeded to run down the driveway.…
