For instance, I had a friend who was really smart and successful, and never hesitated to tell me about her successes. I felt motivated, pressured even, to be like her in order to benefit my future. I was often compared to her, and it opened my eyes to the fact that I had a choice: I could sit back and give up and not care, or I could get up and do whatever was necessary to improve. I was able to reflect on my past triumphs and losses, and use those as stepping stones propriety. In addition, my high school volleyball coach told me at tryouts that if I improved between then and the start of the season, I would be moved up to varsity. I had the whole summer in order to improve, and I took this to heart, using my time off to put my whole heart into the sport I loved to get better. I got an email that said "Congrats, you made it. See you at practice." I looked back on that moment and realized, that my hard work finally paid off and it just took some time. This journey was a rollercoaster of emotions.
