Personal Narrative: America's Beauty Pageants

In late April this year, Jacky called me to compete in the contest to be held on June 2, 2016 at Los Angeles. I am a plain looking 25 Year old girl, who really has many shortcomings to represent our country in the world's beauty pageant. But Jackie persisted "You are so pretty, tall, and kind hearted. But most of all you are a true leader!"

A few days after, I made decision to compete because I felt this was once-in-life time opportunity. And in my small way, I wanted to make my mom proud, who has gone through so much in her life to rear me. I passed the first qualifying round and was qualified for three days of final competition.

The first day of the tournament. I anxiously waited for 9 o'clock as other contestants gather in a hotel ballroom. 9 AM! We walked up to a table to pick up our numbers. I picked number 11. Megan who was sitting next to me picked number one, and she suddenly burst into tears. She was afraid that the number one would put her at a disadvantage. Quickly, I comforted her by saying, "#1 has distinct advantages too. The judges will remember the first person most definitely".

The each group consisted of six girls. A judge instructed each group to select a team leader. My group decide to elect me as their leader because I was most clam and collective. My responsibility as a leader was to check to make sure everyone in my group kept in order. If anyone acted like a pre-Madonna, our entire group will be penalized.
