I was dancing and humming along. At least, that was what my parents told me. That was about the time I discovered my love for singing.
Fast forward to elementary school, I joined chorus, and I absolutely loved it. That was my favorite class of all times, and I was always excited to go. Everyday after finishing my homework, I would go to the piano and pick up where I’d left off in “Sonate Pathétique” the previous night. It’d been a couple of months since the day I first played it, and I’d managed to greatly improve as a result of the countless hours I spent practicing. That night, I was determined to play through the entire first movement without committing a single mistake. Unlike many of my friends, I had a very meticulous mentality. Everything I did had to be done with the utmost care and precision because to me, nothing beat quality work.…

Why I Sing Chaeley Winkler I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t singing. Of course, I know there was time before I could speak or burble as infants do, so there must have existed a certain silence before sound, however the mere thought of being so silent—unable to reach out with voice or touch—disturbs me to no end. But these thoughts of a time before sound hadn’t quite crossed my mind until I began to question the finer, tinier oddities in my life. These questions emerged at around the age of seven, before they had manifested as inner thoughts.…

Going into Soundings, I had unrealistically high expectations for the year, especially considering my busy, after school, schedule. I, now, know that, though living up to my expectations is possible, it is extremely difficult. Mentally and emotionally, this half of the year has been riddled with highs and lows. and so far, I have not accomplished many of my numerous goals. I had realized much earlier in the year that Soundings was not what my friends, and even what my siblings, who were both in the program, made it out to be.…

I joined the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble at the high school and continued to try and better myself as a musician. My music department also offered me other musical opportunities such as festivals. I have attended several festivals such as the Lakes Region music festival and the All New England music festival. These festivals allowed me to come together with other students from different schools that loved singing and performing as much as I did. Every time I perform at one of these festivals I am overwhelmed by how beautiful music can be when everyone I am working with is just as passionate as I am about the work we are doing and also extremely talented.…

As a child, my family went to church quite often. My grandmother always taught me that wanting to do something is one thing, doing it is another.
