Summer for me as a child were more than just a break from school, it was an excuse to be Alice and roam in the wonderland that was my backyard. I didn’t like staying inside for too long back then, especially when there was this whole world of wonder behind our house. Now Alice is all grown up, the magic drained by school and the worries of growing up, but she still remembers some of her adventures in wonderland. Let us flip through the worn, aged pages of the story of my lost wonderland. Telling the tale of how a bright grass green, smooth, scaly queen of hearts stole the magic away, where it was never to be seen again. I burst out the, worn red, splintered side door of the house. I had been caged inside long enough and needed to break free. The dry parched summer heat hit me flat …show more content…
Then, in mere seconds something began to feel off. I looked up just slightly to try to spy more of the sweet flowers, and then our eyes met. It was long, thin, bright lime green, with a light lemon yellow underbelly, and had layers of smooth scales evenly running all the way down to its tail. A thin light pastel pink forked tongue flicked out at me. I froze, muscles tensed, thoughts raced through my head “is it poisonous? Is it hostile? Will it bite me?” Bam. Bam. Bam. I spun around, away from the unidentified snake. Tearring my way up the hill as fast as I could (which isn’t that fast), feet thumping against the ground. My heart was almost breaking out of my chest and through my ribs it was beating so fast. My lungs screamed for air as I reached the peak of the incline. I was

Some people say that their flashbacks are never like the movies’ version, where the screen goes from the character doing something to the screen flashes to her point of view. And the view of the screen is too zoomed in, to where the viewer could not see the person or the object that the character is seeing, causing the character to forget how to breathe and have people worry for them. Everyone is different, but mine are exactly like how the movies describe it to be. Some are triggered by the senses, like the smell of cologne or the taste of a certain pasta. While some just randomly pop up in my mind, almost like in the movie Inside Out where mini people in your mind would pick a memory ball and put it on the memory projector for showing.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

I needed to get to the door before it closed.…

The next day was not a good one for Elaine, as soon as she woke up you could hear her gag and then run straight to the bathroom that connected our rooms to empty her stomach. I am glad I didn't drink last night or else I would also be in the bathroom and that would not be pretty, considering we only have one. I walk to the kitchen to make breakfast for the both of us, we had very little groceries stored in the cupboards so there weren't that many options. However, we did have bread, eggs and bacon, all you really needed for a hangover breakfast. I had just finished making french toast with bacon on the side as Elaine walked out of her room, she looked rough hopefully the breakfast was going to help her feel better.…

Wonderland is as beautiful and colorful as she remembered, reminiscent of a masterpiece painting using colors selected by a child. Alice navigates through the dense forests, tall mushrooms and strange fauna. Alice navigates the path as if she’d done it every day of her life. Upon stumbling through a darker part on her path she all at once gets the sensation of being watched, a chill goes down her spine; the sense of someone breathing on her neck; the sound of faint whispers into her ear, yet she cannot place the direction from where they come. Leaves begin to rustle as if something were moving on top of them, the dirt picks up and trails a gust of air, dragging along with the movement.…
