Autobiography: Chemical substances and how they affect our brains have always fascinated me. Fortunately, I haven’t been curious enough to find out for myself firsthand, despite the struggles I’ve experienced throughout my life. I grew up in an authoritarian household with a neglectful father. My parents had a very codependent marriage, which I later adapted to my own relationships later in life. I’ve always had a lot of anxiety and depression as a child.…
I am an addict. So I guess that’s the first step, right? Admit that you have a problem. Well I do. My addiction sucks my time away.…
“A little? You call reeling and passing out in the streets 'a little'? Bob, I told you, I'm never going out with you while you're drinking, and I mean it. Too many things could happen while you're drunk. It's me or the booze,” I snapped at him.…
I knew we shouldn’t be driving this drunk, but we didn’t care. It was way past midnight, and no one was out anyway. As we kept speeding way past the limit, I saw two figures in the dimly-lit park ahead. I shouted to the guys and slammed the brakes, blasting the car horn.…
It eventually turned into a situation where everyone I was hanging out with was drinking, so I decided to have a drink to give it a try and to fit in. When everyone started to get rowdy I left to hang out with the other sober sophomores. In the morning, Mr. Vierlinck came around questioning everyone about drinking,…
By the loopiness and the gross, potent smell of alcohol in their breath we could tell that they had been drinking. “Go away, you stupid kids” they said harshly in their heavy German accents. We tried to decide if we wanted to keep walking around or listen to them and just leave. Us, being the stubborn kids that we…
Drunken Escapades Intoxicated adults are extremely difficult to babysit and keep out of trouble; especially, when they cause troubling situations that affect everyone. I learned this while helping my boyfriend, Drew, watch his father while his mother, Rebecca, was at work for the night. At the beginning of the night, around five in the afternoon, my boyfriend, Drew, and I decided to take his father, Scot, to Jefferson’s for dinner. This seemed like a harmless idea.…
Throughout the night, they had plenty of alcoholic drinks that were a familiarity in his lifestyle. “Right then my wife filled me in with more details than I cared to know. I made a drink and sat at the table to listen (Carver, 2013, p. 301).” The narrator is uneasy with communication with his wife and tolerates the conversation that he is uninterested knowing by easing the tension through alcoholic drinks. Additionally, the narrator’s lifestyle revolved around drugs to tolerate life, he states, “let me get you a drink.…
I went to an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting, held Wednesday at the 12 Step Club, located inside the Yard Birds mall, in Chehalis Washington. I had gone down the day earlier in the week to make sure I knew all the logistics, where, when and how long it would take, whether or not it was an open meeting, and so forth. The room was in a shopping complex the size of a small mall (305,00 square feet to be exact), and the room itself looks like it had retained the furniture and paint from when it was originally constructed forty-five years ago. Frankly it looked cold, old and moldy, with bleak, dirty, concrete block walls. The gentleman I talked to had long pony-tailed grey hair down his back, of an age impossible to determine, was washing dishes…
"Tell me a story about your family. " It was my first day in Rome. I had finished traveling 16 hours to start an adventure in a brand new country, and my host mother was cooking the first of many incredible Italian dinners to come and trying to get to know me. "I don't really have any stories. " This was definitely not true, but I did not necessarily want to talk about my family in my native language of English, and certainly not in my then shaky Italian.…
Beer smells disgusting; I've hated the smell since I was 6. Weekly, my dad would come home from his construction job and spend time with his best friends Budweiser, Bud Light, and Corona. He would guzzle several beers every night. The alcohol was consuming his life, and his addiction was consuming my life too. I hated seeing my father intoxicated because he wasn't the same person drunk, for the alcohol consumed his soul as if a demon possessed him.…
"I did not think that human's would take a bath so little. But if washing your back is all that you need than I will do that. But can I have more beer cause I do like to have a drink every now and than." Lucoa smiles as she stands up as she gets out of the tub as she walks over to a towel as she drys her self off. "Do not take to long or you will look like a plum since your skin is so weak to water unlike…

Life as a Drug Addict Most people don’t see me doing drugs but I did and it ruined my life but I survived. I use to look down on people who did drugs and I didn’t understand why they did it and why they just wouldn’t stop using them. Then, I became a drug addict…
