It was Friday night, our football team had just played, and we decided to hang out after at our friend’s house. We spent the night playing pool, eating chips and salsa, and watching Netflix. I was having a blast, but some in our group still thought there could be more “fun” involved. Insert quote here. Right then and there, the atmosphere shifted to one one that no longer appealed to me. Alcohol has never been my idea of fun, and I was not going to change my ideals that night. Knowing I would embarrass myself, I called my parents and asked them to pick me up. Situation averted? Not exactly. Although

Autobiography: Chemical substances and how they affect our brains have always fascinated me. Fortunately, I haven’t been curious enough to find out for myself firsthand, despite the struggles I’ve experienced throughout my life. I’ve always had a lot of anxiety and depression as a child.…

Drunken Escapades Intoxicated adults are extremely difficult to babysit and keep out of trouble; especially, when they cause troubling situations that affect everyone. I learned this while helping my boyfriend, Drew, watch his father while his mother, Rebecca, was at work for the night. At the beginning of the night, around five in the afternoon, my boyfriend, Drew, and I decided to take his father, Scot, to Jefferson’s for dinner. This seemed like a harmless idea.…

I went to an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting, held Wednesday at the 12 Step Club, located inside the Yard Birds mall, in Chehalis Washington. I had gone down the day earlier in the week to make sure I knew all the logistics, where, when and how long it would take, whether or not it was an open meeting, and so forth. The room was in a shopping complex the size of a small mall (305,00 square feet to be exact), and the room itself looks like it had retained the furniture and paint from when it was originally constructed forty-five years ago. Frankly it looked cold, old and moldy, with bleak, dirty, concrete block walls. The gentleman I talked to had long pony-tailed grey hair down his back, of an age impossible to determine, was washing dishes…

I had finished traveling 16 hours to start an adventure in a brand new country, and my host mother was cooking the first of many incredible Italian dinners to come and trying to get to know me. "I don't really have any stories. " This was definitely not true, but I did not necessarily want to talk about my family in my native language of English, and certainly not in my then shaky Italian.…

Beer smells disgusting; I've hated the smell since I was 6. Weekly, my dad would come home from his construction job and spend time with his best friends Budweiser, Bud Light, and Corona. I hated seeing my father intoxicated because he wasn't the same person drunk, for the alcohol consumed his soul as if a demon possessed him.…
