Personal Narrative: After Pacific Life

Improved Essays
After Pacific Life I spoke with Oxford Life, which was my second choice. I thought both of the gentleman were very nice, they emphasized that they are looking mostly for someone who is a good fit with their existing group. They work with a small group of seven actuaries and are very close knit. They told me that their employee retention is very high and they both seemed to really enjoy working at their company and there was a nice easy dynamic between the two of them. They did not have any information out at their table and I left without receiving a business card.
I then spoke with Nichole at Arizona Insurance Institute, who was very helpful. I told her that I am interested in life but secondly with P&C. She provided me with her information and she told me that she has contacts with people who are able to find internships in life and health

The first company that I wanted to speak with at this point was Liberty Mutual. I singled them out because I had seen that they were hiring for full time sales. I had a great conversation with John, the Sr. Branch Manager. It turns out he’s father went to the same high school as me. John read through my resume and was very personable. I told him that I had seen they were hiring for sales and that while I want to be an actuary I would love to start out at their company and get a foot in the door so to speak and I would like the job. We talked about a sales internship and discussed the hours, location, and pay. He told me that someone will call me in about a week to begin the process. I left feeling excited about the opportunity and he had said that it is possible and not uncommon for people to move around within the company to different positions. I later found out that the internship was something that he offered to others as well which makes me feel less optimistic about the

It was a rainy morning in Seattle, and I wore my Army dress uniform. Stepping off the bus, I ran 100 yards to the entrance of the Airport. After I purchased my ticket and checked my bags, I headed to the bar. It was the time of the winter equinox, and I was headed home with my discharge in my duffle bag. I suppose I should have worn my civilian clothes, but I had been stateside six months, and the comradeship I experienced in Vietnam had yet to loosen its grip on me.…

The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…

I remember when I use to live in Newfoundland, it was so different for me since I was born and raised in Brampton Ontario, and there was no multi culture on this island. When I first moved there I remember people would stare at me and look at me differently because of my skin color they would automatically assume I wasn’t from Canada or not Canadian because I wasn’t “white”. They wouldn’t consider me as a “Canadian” as well as a “Newfie” because I didn’t have the “Canadian” accent. Another reason was because I wasn’t big on hockey or watched the games they would be so confused and offended because I didn’t have much knowledge on the hockey teams. Remembering all of this again the reason being for many of them not considering me as a “Canadian”…

JC Denton stood on the south dock of Liberty Island. Beneath his stoic, lifeless facade he was worried - deathly worried that there were no GEP guns to be found on this lifeless rock. Liberty Island had previously been ravaged by international terrorists several years prior, who exploded most of the Statue of Liberty in the process. He had been told that it was the work of the French group Silhouette, who claimed that France “was wrong to give America the Statue,” though he had his doubts. JC had been searching for a GEP gun - or guided explosive projectile gun, a rocket launcher said to be the last word in stealth takedowns - throughout the seemingly endless night.…

A metaphor to thoroughly interpret my own cultural identity would be the coconut delicacy known as Haupia. Not only for its elegant perplexion, but for the soft clouded stature that belongs to this alien creature, which taste is only permitted to the fortunate few occupying the native islands of Hawaii. Another perplex root in the tree of my culture is Lei-making. The breathtaking row of an aligned set of flowers to form the Lei is one of the prime connections to the base of the hawaiian culture by contributing to the ancient craft itself. A more well-known phenomenon that had one of its origins among the islands of Hawaii and is still dwelled upon to this day is surfing.…

My initial sights of the New World and the native people was enigmatic and disconcerting- never have I felt so unacquainted with a populace. I have spent my time here in Mexico City trailing along with a group of apprentices of master artists whom I traveled with on the ship from Seville. My artist companions have enlightened my understanding of New World society with their paintings in the time that we have spent together. I’ve been earning exceptional fortune in harvesting New World cochineal for export to Europe and providing pigments for the paint of my fellow artist friends.…
